this would be what i would call a very low risk, low ambition type product

let us throw an A300 amp in to the Star Trek matter teleporter with the new M300SE dac and the teleporter has an accident and it spits out the AL200.

i'm guessing the dual Crystal dac works pretty well in this application and the power is well known

i dont like how the vol. knob does every function but for $230... i mean... it could be all many people will ever need

also for $30 over the A300, its a no brainer and the A300 has no reason to exist any more... oh yeah you lose BTL but who cares.

In that price range I expect one more side step departure (this time from their A300) when it comes to sonics. I mean, one could give it a try (once again). But not any of these Infineon based builds by SMSL, Sabaj so far came close to the best TPA325x amplifiers I have here with me. Since non of the Infineons turned out as capable of delivering the amount of impact dynamics required in certain situations.

I just ordered the SMSL AL200 and I'm looking forward to testing it in my home office setup. I currently use a LOXJIE A30 with the Infineon MA12070 and the SABAJ A30a with Axign AX5689. It will be interesting to compare these setups to the AL200.

Looking at the specifications for the Infineon MA12070, it boasts high efficiency, fully integrated digital audio power with multi-level switching technology. This technology, coupled with its high power output in a small form factor, might make it a serious competitor to other amplifiers in this price range.

On the other hand, the MA5332MS multichip module offers similar or higher output power without needing a heatsink.

Finally, the AX5689 from Axign provides a digital audio converter and amplifier controller, with an impressive 115 dB dynamic range. This might give the AL200 an edge in terms of high-resolution audio processing.

Good. They added screen off. They've been listening

yeah there's no screen off on the A300 but there is on the M300

to my liking i'd rather they go with a complete matrix OLED like the M300 rather than the segment like the A300... here they did both!

may as well slap in a clock and maybe an alarm

Topping MX5 have this really nice auto-sensing option ( also for analog inputs ). This + wiim mini can serve as alarm clock :)
I think this AL200 doesn't have auto-sensing option.

They must have made a mistake in the dimensions (height), because if it measures 210 mm wide, it's impossible for it to measure 41 mm high, I measured it with a software program respecting the proportions, and it's impossible for it to measure 41 mm high, so there's a mistake !!! Normally if you click on the picture below , it is exactly the right size in width ( 210 mm ) but does not measure 41 mm in height ( with bluetooth antenna or not ) . I think this is important if anyone needs exact measurements.

4.1 cm does seem a bit high but its not too bad i guess... maybe 1 3/4 rack units is ok, could be thinner but i guess its dominated by that big display

??? i don't understand ... , If it measures 210 mm wide, it's impossible for it to measure 41 mm high, keeping the proportions of the SMSL image !!!!

If we apply the amp dimensions given on the smsl site to the image, we get this, so there's an error in the dimensions, Either their width is wrong, or their height is wrong . The amp in the image I'm posting is 210 mm wide and 41 mm high, and it looks deformed at the top .

your headphone socket is oval shaped!

yeah their stuff is off... its looks wider than the width suggest, we will know once it lands with a reviewer

The headphone jack and volume knob are oval, yes, I showed them the error on SMSL's facebook page .

Good dimensions, if the 210 mm width given on the SMSL site is correct .

I measure 41 mm. You need to measure the front panel, not the back.

I still don't get it , sorry !!! Further up the thread I posted two pics examples , which proves that there's an error, and I'm clearly showing that it's the front of the amp .

Does the AL200 use the same Infineon power amp chip as the A300? Styling wouldn't be out of place in a more expensive product. I do wish that SMSL were not in the MQA rearguard.

This does look pretty great, I wish their new stuff used the TI 3255 chip instead of the MA5332 though. I like my AO100 of theirs, but I am using it for softer/background level music. Still, I agree, this does seem a better package now than the A300. I'm not a huge fan of the slant-front design, but I could live with it. I do agree about the screen-blanking feature, I really like that in the AO100.
