Denon AVR-X8500H AVR Review

I'd start with a soft reset (unplug the avr from power). If that doesn't do anything then I'd run a factory/microprocessor reset....
Not sure how to do that, I've definitely already unplugged the AVR multiple times. I suppose I can try to get ahold of Denon. I'm using all outboard amps, so I thought doing so would prolong the life of the unit. I also have a dedicated heat activated fan on it. The AVR with the amps turned off runs really cool.

Thanks!! I was not only able to do a factory reset but I used the save and load settings functions and it actually worked... All of my settings came back. Now we will see if it did anything... I'm still going to get an electrician out here.
Good luck!

Good luck!
Thank you I'm kind of resigned at the moment.. seems like a potential motherboard issue in my uneducated mind. I'm also going to reach out to denon... I don't know how good they are at responding to things like this.

Is it still under warranty? So full reset didn't change anything?

So far so good.. looks like maybe the reset calmed everything down. I will be honest I have been absolutely bombarding the unit with multi eqx updates, tests, etc .. I just got a pair of F226Be and I'm dialing them in... Maybe it just needed a break to reset.

Sometimes they're just a bit buggy and a reset is in order is the way I look at it. OTOH a fresh start with new gear is a good thing, too.

Even though I got an amazing price on the F226Be it was very disturbing to think that I would have to buy another AVR/AVM at the same moment. Holding my breath but everything is looking okay right now.

Hoprefully just a glitch remedied by the reset. Nice speakers!

The AVR unit is ice cold there is no heat coming out of it at all... Which is what I expect when I'm running outboard amps...dammit.

Damn...glitched again for the first time after running for 3 hours.
I'd think it's time for someone who can troubleshoot the electronics and effect a repair if needed (maybe a Denon authorized facility?)

I'd not think it's particularly heat, could be a bad board or solder connection....

It's not on start-up. It happened randomly well after start-up. It "looks" like things have stabilized now that I've moved a number of electronics and my internet modem off of the circuit.

I missed this. I have read about cable modems have abnormal voltages on the coax. Something to check….

What do you have exactly plugged in? Does it fail if you run the internal amps? Maybe something with the Adcom is failing and it is triggering a protection circuit on the pre out.

Crap...It happened again. Oh man...I paid $3k for that AVR less than a year ago...Will still get an electrician out. Is this really a sign of a dying AVR?
I think it is the protective cct doing this to you. Did any blinking light show up? Have you check the fault history? If it is the protective cct., the fault history will tell you what triggered it.

Thanks Peng. How do I check the fault history? I tried looking in the manual but "default" overloaded results

bo_knows said would send you something so you are all set.

I will try to dig into that today. BTW, I don't see a "protect" message, it just reboots randomly and picks right back up where it left off.

That may be a good sign. If you were right there when that happened, did you hear any relay ""clicks"? I am hoping it may be a bad relay, or a deterirating solder joint, or a bad connection.
