I recall another audiophile diety was preaching from the ancient texts his warnings against VU meters. He said they impart a sonic signature; or something like that.

I miss having VU meters.
Is there anything that is just a VU meter?
Like straight wire XLR/RCA in-out, completely passive circuit except for some analog VU meters?

It's in Watts, not dB....
Do you need it for bling or measurement? If latter then LED types may be better.

Just because I want bling doesn't mean I want technically incorrect bling.
On a separate topic, one of the cool meters of 1970s was the ones with acceleration. Without it VU meters can be anemic.
