We measure audio equipment for free!!!

amirm

Please recheck the output signal with an oscilloscope. I have 300 millivolts of floating high frequency noise at the output of Behringer UMC204.
Users have done looping and measurements on the same card, but I don't trust such measurements, as the same sound card probably doesn't write high frequencies. I trust only oscilloscope. And the link to the post with video of my measurements.

As a general rule, I have a 50 pound limit for electronics. And cringe when a speaker gets to 100 pounds. Discontinued products is a different matter. If the product is vintage and has fame, then I measure it. Or if we have no coverage of a brand, I may make an exception. Other than that, I have so much current stuff to test here that I can't justify testing products members can't buy.
Hey! Was trying to send you a message about getting my Full Fat Audio 10000 or 8004 DSP tested. Would it be of any interest?

They are one of the top brands in the industry up against Linea, MC2, Ram, and more. Their specs are reasonable and for rms ratings unlike the lowly Crown amps peak ratings. Pushing 2x 5000w monoblock amplifiers at 2ohms unbridged, 3000w/4ohm, and 1500w/8ohm. The inside of the amplifiers are incredibly overbuilt. Opening it up today and I'll take a photo.

Look forward to hearing back!

Damn Dog, can I use this in the garage for welding too when needed?

Hi @amirm -- Sorry if this is in the wrong place but how is it going w/ my Cambridge Audio Minx XL's? Thank you --cjm

Back in June ( a donation to this fine establishment ;)). There is no way of buying them in the USA (yet) but a distributor is coming. Of all the Alcons, Meyers and Jbl synthesis, I've used or owned there is no more holographic constant head ducking loudspeaker for Atmos Music than these balls this is because they are coaxial, but the shape also eliminates an important cabinet induced distortion ( RCA RESEARCH 1960)which contributes to the holographic duck your head on Steven Wilson and Booka Shade music atmos recordings, and finally the speaker itself is a radial diffuser on its own improving acoustics.

In this room we complemented the spheres with more radial diffusion ( also RCA research from 1960), we even applied RCA's research recommended siting periodicity in one wall. Sounds delightful.

The driver and crossover is rather inexpensive defying the sound value.
There is a slightly higher end Anniversary edition with crossover and cable improvements, but they are working on on a high end driver and crossover for a future release. That is why many of us are so curios about the Klippel Results.

Excellent Thanks, I look forward to the review. What happened to the summer, amazing how fast time passes.

If I ever get down Miami way I need to check you our.

@CINERAMAX
If you sent those in June, send Amir a private message. He may be able to bump it up in queue.

I recently sent him the Meyer MM4XP, so maybe along with the Minx XL, there can be a roundup of potential Atmos speakers to measure.

Hi Peter,

I saw the new upgraded Elipson planet L at PAVS2024(Paris Audio Video Show). The name is Elipson Planet L Performance. Release date in Europe should be end of january 2025.
A few months ago I bought 3 of them to test as LCR and they are something special.
Now hesitating to get more of them when the new ones come out to a full Atmos set up or go with Genelec 8341.

That’s excellent news. This speaker should outperform any other for multichannel audio, particularly in small to medium rooms, where Dolby Atmos Music truly shines. *Booka Shade’s Dear Future Self Plexus 2am* and most Atmos mixes by Steven Wilson are prime examples. Today, I’m especially looking forward to his Atmos remixes of *King Crimson - RED* and *XTC - Skylarking*, expertly mixed by the master himself.

Here are images of the performance,

Especially the ceiling-mounted speakers remind me of 1960s retro-futurism, awesome. I think these speakers would also look great in a modern living room or even with furniture from the 70s. :)
If they get Amir's recommendation we have an alternative to Kefs LS 50 (Meta) at a competitive price. But while the original LS 50 has no wall/ceiling mount option at all, for the Meta version only a third-party wall mount solution is available (in Europe, with vertical adjustment options to a very limited extent). If you want to mount it on a high wall or ceiling, you have to do it yourself. I cut aluminum sheets to size for wall mounting my LS 50 Meta. Next week the sheets will be edged (so that the height angle also is correct) and then powder-coated. At Elipson, these customer wishes have apparently been taken into account by the manufacturer and the pricing of the accessories is very reasonable.

When evaluating and measuring audio we sometimes forget the brain is its own computer that applies its own correction mechanisms, mappers and filters to a certain extent and thus determines what each individual finally perceives, not forgetting the room and speakers, do you like what you perceive

Looking at the SINAD curves from Amir, the gap between the modulus lm3886 and the Benchmark could indicate the Mark Levinson smokes it, however amplifiers have many dimensions, the most important being semiconductor, capacitor and other components quality. if these are held constant we then go into fashion aspects, music type, speakers etc. It looks like 15% IMD isn't so bad. There are many dimensions to amplifier acceptability including soft clipping and dynamic behavior. Just pick what you like.

Higher IMD values of 1% to 20% are heavily coveted as these are more meaty and fun as opposed to fast accurate and lean. Its just like using compression in mastering to add meat to the bass.

Hello, I have a pair of MartinLogan speakers that I really enjoy. So, since I enjoy them so much, I was curious to expand my experience to headphones.
I bought myself a pair of MartinLogan Mikros 90 heaphones (for $120), which are the only over-ear headphones made by MartinLogan, way back in the early 2010s.
I'm very disappointed with how they sound. Sounds like a pair of tin cans. I would even say my Apple Airpods Pro 2 are better!
I'm actually worried they might be "blown" or something.
I live in the Seattle area. Any chance you could review them for me? If only to tell me if they are somehow damaged or if they really just suck that bad.
Thanks

Yes, you read the title right. If you have audio gear that you like to see objectively measured with professional equipment, we (I) may be interested in doing that for you and our readers.

There is so little objective data on equipment today. Even if you are not an "objectivists" it pays to contribute to gathering some data to weed out poorly engineering products of which, there are many. Electronic design and building of audio equipment has become much easier today, allowing so many unqualified people to get in the business and building potentially unsafe and non-performant equipment. It is important for data to show such poor practices. At the same time, there are also superbly designed equipment and they deserve standing out from the crowd and dust of all the other gear.

If you are interested in participating, all you have to do is "start a conversation with me" by clicking on my name/avatar and we can work out the logistics. Typical lead time from when equipment arrives is 4 to 5 weeks. Exceptions can be made which we can address in the conversation.

Note that there is some risk of gear getting lost, damaged, etc. The rate of this thankfully has been as low as 0.1%. Still, if you are concerned, you can use insurance to cover shipping losses (and I can do the same in reverse).

Also note that accommodating shipments from outside the US can be very difficult. Small items can be managed. Larger items, especially if they are low cost, don't make sense to send back and forth.

So let's join hands and work together to create a large and useful library of objective, reliable and repeatable data for users to make good decisions in purchasing audio equipment, and to guide manufacturers to build better products.

Speaking of manufacturers, I am more than happy to see them participate too and indeed a number have. I make no assurance whatsoever of happy outcome should you loan me the equipment. What I can promise is supporting you in troubleshooting problems that are revealed in my testing and review.

Thanks in advance for those of you who participate.
im very interested in having testing done.
