I think there is still some room for better performance. This is just the first step. I am hoping manufacturers of high-end AVP now get motivated to beat it and we see better performance. This AVP for example uses ESS9018. There are DAC ICs with better performance if implemented well.

How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?

I'll be anxiously waiting to see what Marantz will replace the AV7706 and AV8805A with.
They both got to be on the chopping block by now and a 11.2 channel processor would fit
my needs perfectly now and into any foreseeable future.

That’s exactly my point - 8k USD (after licensing) it’s kind of in a nether region where price doesn’t really matter to prospective buyers. Given that, why wouldn’t someone just buy e.g. Storm, Lyngdorf, or even Trinnov?

Because Marantz/Denon fanboy, using their gear for over 30yrs.

this is one marantz i wouldn't put into a dog cat charity recuse shelter
no 8 ch internal inputs , headless panther cat litter tray
no proper Dolby pro-logic for laserdiscs vhs tapes with Dolby Stereo , headless panther cat litter tray
no proper way of actually doing proper Dolby Stereo , surrounds of left-half right-half and marantz dares call this , high end processor , headless panther , cat litter tray
It doesn't have a SuperVHS input either.
Your kicking products for not having a bunch of obsolete tech. :(
i wouldn't put that cheap maratz remote into a dog cat charity recuse shelter , looks as cheap as the stormaudio , trinnov remotes , takes the mickey it does with this bs home cinema avr avp it does now
Another valueless post

And imagine how many they would ship if they just gave it away :)

Whenever there is an avr review the comments go why they don’t spend a bit more to make it SOTA. Here it is and then the comments go why it’s not cheaper
Welcome to ASR
Someone has to whine about something

Dolby Stereo is a sound format made by Dolby Laboratories. It is a unified brand for two completely different basic systems: the Dolby SVA (stereo variable-area) 1976 system used with optical sound tracks on 35mm film, and Dolby Stereo 70mm noise reduction on 6-channel magnetic soundtracks on 70mm prints.”- Wikipedia

1976? Are you serious?

So no, you are wrong to expect more today from a package that does what this one does.

To be honest, I know that I'm nitpicking. And like others have already pointed out, the "bad" is likely completely non-audible.

It just bugs me to see the constuction being described as designed for "maximum noise suppression", and yet the measurements doesn't really show that goal being met.

Just reading this and other threads on AV equipment here and elsewhere, given tbe complexity of the licensing arrangements before you even start building tbe next product to be universally whined about and that may be obsolete before it even hits the shops… why not just do an Oppo and get out?

I dare say Marantz could make more money today, and certainly have an easier life, if they just bought in a couple of entry level AVRs using OEM parts, and invested in “heritage” products like a model 9 copy with special wiring and cheap transformers for that “Marantz sound”…

and they could charge one hell of a lot more than $7000 as well.

You mean play the McIntosh game? :p

BTW, I'm not by any means slamming Mc here. They've always built some great gear, at or close to SOTA, built like tanks, highly reliable, and attractive looking depending on your taste. Why shouldn't they take advantage of the demand for the old tube amps as long as they continue to build and design super new stuff.. It's not a rip-off of the public like cables and their claims. Wish I could afford a few pieces.

"Power amplifiers are the driving force behind any great home audio system. McIntosh amplifiers blend eye-catching aesthetics, power and sonic integrity in a way that has been capturing the imagination of music lovers and home theater enthusiasts for decades.

Whether your desires run towards vacuum tubes or solid state, monoblock, stereo or multi-channel configurations, McIntosh has your home audio or home theater amplifier solution."

Great measurements.

Has it ever been shown that listeners can hear a difference between this level of performance and, say, something like the Emotiva MC-1? There's no doubt that other pre-pros (like the Emotiva) measure worse. Has that difference in performance been shown to be audible? Just sayin'
