Bluesound releases 2024 ICON streamer

Boxem Purifi user here. My Node Icon is connected balanced using microphone cable from Cordial: there is no hum, no interference, no nothing! Pure joy this combo!
I wonder what you would have done in case of hum (as there is no RCA on the Boxem)... Would XLR to RCA cable sort this out?

Could that be taken as general rule of thumb that it is working with all Boxen purifi amps - or could it differ from unit to unit?

Any observation/experience regarding this topic with Apollon amps?

The biggest problem is that they couldn’t deliver this with some sort of solution for Genelec owners.

Node Icon 113 dB
Wiim Ultra 107 dB
Eversolo DMP-A10 112dB
Node N132 84dB
Eversolo DMP-A8 82dB
Auralic Vega S1 99dB
Cambridge CXN 100 100dB

Node Icon 0.001%
WiiM Ultra 0.001%
Eversolo DMP-A10 0.0052%
Node N132 0.007%
Eversolo DMP-A8 0.0089%
Auralic Vega S1 0.0012%
Cambridge CXN 100 0.0011%

And just to know the limits of Stereo.de’s testing, they did get the Gustard X26 down to 0.0005% and the Nagra Classic DAC II to 116 dB SNR.

So the Node Icon isn’t the best thing they have ever measured but it is clearly the best streamer they have measured.

The fact that it beats the RME ADI 2 FS and the WiiM Ultra does suggest that it will do pretty well here at ASR but it really will be interesting!

Is there a second page to this review? The last section I see is about Qrono. I see no measurements, no conclusion... it just ends??
@pogo has the print copy. Any thoughts?

Are you sure all that is correct? Just because it looks like the Eversolo DMP-A8 measures much better than that!

Who wrote? The WiiM is wrong as well as the Eversolo.

This is testing from stereo.de so you can do like to like comparisons. No idea on FFT size, bandwidth limiting, etc.

Stereo.de is a German audio magazine. The print magazine gives you a small graph, but the online articles just give you the numbers. Their -9dBFS distortion is not measured at 1 kHz. In an earlier post, I mention that it looks like they test at 400 Hz.

@amirm has the Node Icon. If Stereo.de’s testing is accurate, this should beat the WiiM Ultra at ASR measurements too. The main difference would be distortion. If the Node Icon is a lot worse at 0dBFS 1 kHz instead of the 400 Hz, then SINAD may favor WiiM even if SNR should favor the Node. It will be interesting to see the headphone performance too.

So stereo.de the Eversolo DMP-A8 was 82dB and ASR it's 120dB? I don't have a dog in this as I'm not likely to buy either one the Icon or Eversolo but something is not right even the analog preamp on the Eversolo does 120dB. I wonder how the heck they got 82dB?

It looks like Stereo.de is undergoing maintenance so I cannot read the article, but this is exactly why you can only compare numbers from the same testing site.

At Stereophile, they measured 91 dB unweighted SNR and 105 dB restricted bandwidth and 107.5 dB A-weighted.

Same product, just different test parameters.

Did Amir receive his Eversolos directly from the manufacturer ?

Yes. Amir always discloses where he gets the product from. All 3 eversolo products measured here were sent by the company. Same with all of the WiiM's (although I will say that I measured my Ultra and it was in the same vicinity as Amir's numbers). The Node Icon was sent by a reader as have all of the other Bluesound products tested. So at least you know you're getting a random sample. 3 of the FOSI products were sent by members, but the rest are from the company. I will also say that my ZD3 matches Amir's performance numbers when I've measured it, so I don't think there are cherry picked samples, although you never know.

What is the problem with the Icon and/or other BlueSound streamers in combination with genelec speakers?

Some people get ground loops when using the Node Icon with Buckeye Amplifiers and with Genelec speakers.

I see no measurements, no conclusion
Further measured values can be found under: Bluesound Node Icon streamt auch ins Netzwerk
You can find a test summary at the beginning.

That is also the section that requires accepting cookies from heise.

But there is just what I posted. The graph is only in the print or E-magazine.

But Amir for sure had one sent to him so we will get the full ASR treatment soon.

A8 numbers look wildly off ... so I'm not sure about the rest of them.
