This is a little less than anticipated, especially with the discount code - nice. Do you know how long the code will be active?

@vinyl_slayer Limited range is sufficient if the goal is to correct for the room. Go for the full range if you have desire to mold the full spectrum, eg if you want to apply a shelf filter to higher frequencies (if your speakers are too bright, or if you prefer more 'air'). I will purchase full range as I want to play with different curves for TV/Movies to increase intelligibility of speech. I would leave those speech-specific adjustments out of the curve applied for music.

You have both options. The full and limited range.

The MiniDSP UMIK-1/2 are proven options and commonly used, including for tools like REW. The jury is out on the better microphone. The UMIK-1 is supposed to be more omnidirectional based upon the physics of capsule size. I usually get better real world results with the UMIK-2 due to lower noise floor and my own experience.

Jury is out on what the best correction is. If you have a superb speaker, the limited range is probably the best option anyway. You don’t need to correct above the transition frequency and if you have an anechoically flat speaker like a Meyer Sound, Genelec, or Neumann, then you are more subject to measurement error. On the other hand, if you want to apply a bit of correction because your speaker is next to a highly reflective surface (or is behind an acoustically transparent screen that actually attenuates the treble a bit more than the midrange and bass), you will want to correct that.

Since I have premium speakers, I will likely opt to go for limited range only.

A newb question about Dirac, is the license bound to a single Dirac device, or can it be used across a couple of dirac compatible devices?

Bound to the unit unfortunately. It is transferable when you sell the unit but cannot be undone and moved to a new product. If it is a like for like replacement, they should be able to issue a new license as an exemption.

So, if you buy for the Node Icon, and sell your a Node Icon, it is worth more if that serial number is associated with a Dirac license. If your Node Icon breaks and it’s replaced under warranty, you should be able to get them to transfer your license to a new Node Icon. If your Node Icon breaks, and you buy a new Node Icon out of warranty, it’s a gray zone (@Flak). If your Node Icon breaks out of warranty and you buy a Node Icon 2, it will not transfer as far as I know.

The PC/Mac version is the only version that is “infinite”.

Likewise, if you have multiple Node Icons, you need to buy multiple licenses…

Just tried dirac but i have not a good mic yet so I used my mac internal mix. Résultat is really strang but I guess it’s the mic’s fault. I’ll buy one next month and ask a friend to help me calibrate the speakers. Because I’m not a pro and it’s quite hard. One thing I noticed is that when sending the frequencies test my left speaker as a sort of crackle in the Bass and nothing on the right really strange

An internal mac mic is definitely going to give you funky results. It's essential to use a good, calibrated mic.

Ooh 5 memory ?

What would be cool is if different filters were automatically applied to different inputs (eg RCA, HDMI, streaming, etc) when switching between input. Wiim has this feature and I think it's a really nice value.

The Wiim still the best price / quality and the application is one of the best not to mention the many improvements made with each update.

Yes Wiim is a great value. My comment was not intended to compare the two products however and I hope not to derail this thread.

Thanks i will buy a umik 1 next month. Yes the result are strange like it sounds way too much on Bass on the sound is like restrained

If you hear crackles ON the sweep your volume is too high.

What you can do is to adjust the target curve to match the measured native response and just smooth in the peaks and dips. Even if your mic is miscalibrated, it is precise but inaccurate and can be used to address the worst parts of your frequency response.

OK gave Dirac a shot with my UMIK-1. I guess I have a steep learning curve to climb as after measuring several times, each time the result just seems to knock out the bass, sounds very flat. Will have to try again tomorrow after some more reading.

You don't have to recalibrate each time. Save the calibration as project. Try using different target curves. You can also use the sliders of the auto target curve function to adjust to your taste: Link

The standard “Harman” cinema curve is as much as a 10 dB bass boost.

Bluesound’s target is https://www.bluesound.com/usa/amfile/file/download/file/3574/product/1087/

What you want to use is the different presets to have a flat, Harman, and then can try the Bluesound target too.

EDIT: Take a screenshot of your final measurements post measurement and we can help.

Yea that sounds like it should be solvable by adjusting the target curve.

What do you all think about starting a new thread for Bluesound+Dirac?

Why the UMIK-1?
In my opinion, the Bluesound Mic is cheaper and better.
my local dealer said to me that the Bluesound mic might be bad and suggested me to buy the umik but the price of the Bluesound is cheaper. So i might get this one just waiting for a purchase link in France
