WiiM Ultra

has been pointing for quite a while at wiim in wiim forum
with qualibration etc

I won a ART USB Phono Plus for cheap on the auction site. This will allow me to digitize my vinyl. I'm going to put it on a thumb drive for listening in the car on road trips. But it also allowed me to test using the Wiim PEQ for my turntable.

Signal chain
U-turn Orbit Pro TT -> USB Phono Plus Preamp -> Wiim Pro Analog In -> Wiim Optical Out -> Rotel RA1572 Optical In -> Martin Logan SL3

A little convoluted obviously. Analog to digital to analog. I enjoyed playing around with the PEQ settings but ended up reverting back to bypassing the Wiim for my turntable and running it straight to the Rotel's integrated phono hookup. Vinyl tends to introduce a lot of noise that swamps the benefits of the DSP compared to a pure digital signal. I am happy with a simpler setup for my vinyl and just using the Rotel's tone controls if I feel the need to make adjustments. I will continue to use the Wiim DSP for all of my digital signals (HT, CD/DVD, Streaming).

Someday I might splurge on a MiniDSP type of solution but I am ruling out purchasing the Wiim Ultra for now.

I think I am going to ask a stupid question but...
I am using a mini pc as a main source to my AMP right now to listen to music, and also to watch movies.
The thing is sometimes I am really interested in the (no) need to turn it on and play some music directly (so I need a streamer).
I was almost close to buy a EverSolo but it was too much money on one side, on the other I was waiting for this device that ships a really good DAC compared to the cheaper wiim alternatives.

My question is... is it possible to keep streaming movies from my mini pc (audio) via optical to the wiim also? And the wiim be the unifying device to carry all my sources? I mean there is no lag or things like that?
Because my idea is to connect my minipc, my TV, as a source into the wiim, and use the internal DAC from the wiim to send the analog signal to my amplifier.

Thanks!

That should work just fine.

PC via Toslink
TV via ARC
Music via WiFi/Ethernet

If your PC is connected to the TV via HDMI, then you can use ARC for both the PC, and any streaming Apps running natively on the TV.

I agree that the Room correction is a great feature, but the fact you can't use an android phone to do the measurements will not cripple it's market, imo. Using a separate usb-c mic is going to be possible soon and that is a much better solution anyway
"Using a separate usb-c mic is going to be possible soon" Where have you read this and is the separate usb-c mic going to be sold by Wiim? because otherwise you have the same problem as with Android devices... many different usb-c mics

It is currently not clear to me whether "external microphone" and "WiiM Remote microphone" are referring to the same thing.

I would assume it would be limited to USB-C mics with available calibration files.

your phone- tablette etc..and wiim home

Just wondering will the wiim ultra allow me to add room correction and bass management to my Cambridge audio cxa80 so I can add a high pass filter to my speakers. Would I connect my sub to the wiim and then use the coaxial out to my cxa80? Or does it not work like that.

Does not work like that. You’d connect sub and all sources to the WIIM, basically use it as a preamp and relegate the cxa80 to power amp duties.
