I'm in Australia too - so I very much get you about the relative prices. I think some of those price relativities are similar elsewhere too.
I'm about to take delivery of my own WiiM Ultra for just that reason (price). And also it fits for me in an ecosystem where I am running WiiM streamers in other systems.
My main interest in the Ultra is similar to what seems to drive your enquiry - I thought the Ultra might be a bit more user friendly for my wife/family.
All I was really trying to highlight earlier is that, objectively, with those various units there are things that come with the extra $. Whether they are worth it is the subjective question.
PS - I can see a Node Icon being of interest for my use case when (if) the funds were to become available......
