I have an aversion against casket sized speakers. There's the distracting size factor, but also the utter impossibility of optimal placing in a real world room (as evidenced in many of the pictures in this thread).Yup. I appreciate a high-end speaker that looks like it is comprised of various high-quality materials, with a meticulous finish.
These were my Soundfield Monitor 1s. They were beautiful to me, and I spent many a happy hour in front of them for a decade or so. They have since been rebuilt into the SAM 1V2s, exchanging the coax drivers from 5.25" KEF Uni-Qs to what they now have, the 6" Tang Band W6-2313s.

They look amazing, Unfortunately they sound worse than speakers a tenth of the price. I'd take a pair of 801 D4, KEF Blades and quite afew others any day over any Wilson Audio speaker of any price. The only class leading aspect of Wilson Audios is their price, otherwise, the king has no clothes.

What are your current speakers?I feel the same way to a degree. If a speaker gets too large it becomes imposing.
Whenever I’ve set up my mini monitors or stand mountain speakers there’s always a refreshing lack of visual distraction, and a gee-wiz feeling of the music just floating in air.
My current floorstanding speakers are pretty much just at my tolerance level for a size that I don’t find imposing.
Another DIY NickS project, originally idealized and started by DanP, the Portals:

The inner curved baffles were 3d printed. Kinda had a very directional "audible smoke ring" polar response, and were not as exciting to hear as to look at. Nick said the xover "It whooped my ass!" in terms of difficulty. More or less had to be done or adjusted by various RTA measurements.
How are you gonna know how something sounds if you don't try it?
