not necessarily beautiful but I just didn't know where to post it, I just found out that they exist and aren't cheap - 46k€ for a pair, kind of high for 2x13" woofers and no DSP. Flush mounted mains are rather niche thing at this point so it's nice to see anything new. There's also a smaller model https://www.focal.com/catalog/pro-audio/monitoring-speakers/utopia-main

Yup. I appreciate a high-end speaker that looks like it is comprised of various high-quality materials, with a meticulous finish.
I have an aversion against casket sized speakers. There's the distracting size factor, but also the utter impossibility of optimal placing in a real world room (as evidenced in many of the pictures in this thread).

These were my Soundfield Monitor 1s. They were beautiful to me, and I spent many a happy hour in front of them for a decade or so. They have since been rebuilt into the SAM 1V2s, exchanging the coax drivers from 5.25" KEF Uni-Qs to what they now have, the 6" Tang Band W6-2313s.

It’s too bad Parts Express stopped selling those cabinets and spare baffles. That was an easy way for a DIYer to get a nice looking speaker without woodworking expertise.

Do you have measurements? The only problem with the KEF driver was, he couldn’t get them any more! I’d be surprised if an ersatz is better.

Also which woofer is that? Mine are the TangBand woofer variant. I think he started with a JBL car audio woofer and iterated from there.

The inner curved baffles were 3d printed. Kinda had a very directional "audible smoke ring" polar response, and were not as exciting to hear as to look at. Nick said the xover "It whooped my ass!" in terms of difficulty. More or less had to be done or adjusted by various RTA measurements.

How are you gonna know how something sounds if you don't try it?

I feel the same way to a degree. If a speaker gets too large it becomes imposing.

Whenever I’ve set up my mini monitors or stand mountain speakers there’s always a refreshing lack of visual distraction, and a gee-wiz feeling of the music just floating in air.

My current floorstanding speakers are pretty much just at my tolerance level for a size that I don’t find imposing.

So how do they sound?

They look wild really cool.

Honestly, kind of flat in terms of image/soundstage. The 'smoke ring' comment really says it all.

What are your current speakers?

I swap between my Thiel 2.7 and Joseph Audio Perspective 2 speakers.

I just posted some photos in this thread:

I got rid of most of my other speakers that were kicking around, but I still have my little Spender s3/5s which I still find to be magical.
