the most beautiful and famous pop songs of the 40 years

I'm sorry, but this one just started playing, so it needs to be added to this list:
Willie Nelson
Always On My Mind

Perhaps I missed this one earlier in this thread (or perhaps not). It seems apropos to the subject at hand...

Angel (Sarah McLachlan) - 1997

Chris
My mother passed from breast cancer years ago and requested I play this song in her celebration. It’s amazing how hearing it just now on an iPad transcends SINAD and SPL. Thank you for sharing.

There is now another thread for us old guys. ;)
This is a song presented by that guy who made the "old guys" thread. I wanted to include it there but it was just a touch too recent. This is from 44 years ago, Dick Gaughan "Now Westlin Winds" from "Handful of Earth", a collection of traditional Celtic folk tunes released in 1981:

Well, Gaughan had been playing these songs in the clubs for a decade or so - I think it counts. My favourite is Craigie Hill:

Not particularly famous, but two beautiful songs from ca. 1995*.

Lisa Loeb Do You Sleep

Heather Nova Truth and Bone

______________
* Which I originally (mis) posted in @Robin L's thread, oops.

I'm just wondering how you managed to misread the thread title. The word beautiful doesn't even rhyme with the word horrendous.
