the most beautiful and famous pop songs of the 40 years

LOL.
Dude, if it's Houston-esque music that you like, look up Anita Baker. She does it so much better and without all that overwrought shrieking.

Bonnie Raitt - I Can't Make You Love Me (1991)

Another audiophile favorite, similarly beautiful (IMO).
Saddest song I ever heard I think. I remember when it came out, hits me in the feelz all these years later. Always will. live even better:

Spotify does that for me, and I’ve only recently gotten into streaming.

No one seems to mention this, but for people married a long time, nostalgia music is a bit more than music.
Except for when you have a wife that does not like music (just about our one incompatability). Not in the house or car. (Of course it's good that she travels for months at a time), so I can listen to music.
This is something that I did not discover until 2 years ago (because we traveled a lot for work, usualy in different directions, for months at a time), after 2 years of dating 7 18 years of marriage.
But this year she's been here since July 10 & will likely be here until then in 2026.
It's starting to become difficult. I hate headphones & IEMs but I am on the verge of breaking the Sennheiser RS220 wireless headphones out again.
No TV here either (since 2007 [which is fine by me).

I think that Norah Jones is in some ways a modern Billie Holiday--not a spectacular voice but singing in a classic style (a Hoagy Carmichael tune from 1940)....making it hers. I often think back to this 2002 classic to feel that mood and familiar vibe again. Ms. Jones nailed it...

"The Nearness of You"
