AsciLab A6B Review

That little knee at 5.2kHz does catch the eye, would it be audible?

That’s only seen in on axis. If you toe out the speaker 10~15 deg, that will be disappeared.
It is common effect, the reason why Listening Window response is important.
I see. But I also don't see, the listening window response or dedicated off axis curves :)

Give this kind of info in your manuals regarding setup . KEF's are similar you should listen slightly of axis never directly on axis .

Audiophiles have a tendency to aim the speakers right at them . So info like this should feature prominently in manuals .

Hope you guys work on a center channel speaker next.

@Nuyes
Fantastic stuff, thanks!

Are frequency response graphs smoothed?

Any subjective impressions to add to this review?

I’m doing for that now ;)

Hi. I'm fascinated by these speakers but can find no website page or launch details. What is the plans /time line /active speaker pricing for this speaker range? Thanks

same question. even an instagram post for detailed product info is better than nothing!

The best source of information I know is the main thread:

And maybe sending AsciLab messages directly.

Apparently this speaker is not going to be offerred after all. It is being supplanted with a speaker that has the new Purif tweeters and will retail at $4500 pr. A shame because it looks like there is absolutely nothing wrong with this A6b configuration, and it's price far more reasonable at $2900/pr. I, for one, can't see paying the premium for Purifi tweeters when I really don't think the original tweeters were in any way a bottleneck in allowing the design to achieve its true potential. I would sincerely like Asci to reconsider. Fine to offer the Purifi tweeter as an upgrade over the standard design, but let buyers make the decision on what's best for themselves.

I don’t think it’s just the tweeter, the crossover should be quite different too. Running two low volume models is gonna be challenging for a small startup…

If you look they already are planning to offer about 18 models, so what's a 19th? No doubt there doing this because they no longer want to offer something as good as the A6b, when they can milk an all Purifi design at much, much higher margins. Considering they spent almost a full year, promising these ultra high value lower priced models and then withdrew them before they even sold a single one, I'm not a fan. Seems like bait and switch to me.

I think 18 SKUs is too many for a company this size and 19 would just be making a bad problem worse.

As for the purifi designs being higher margin... not a sure thing. Those drivers are expensive as hell. I don't know what the OEM pricing is. If I had to guess margins would be the same or similar on the more expensive model.

Seems like bait and switch to me.
Bait and switch is when you're sold (or heavily promised) one thing and given another. This is them changing their prospective product lineup in a way you don't like. I don't even think they've shipped anything to the US yet. It might be disappointing but I don't see anything genuinely dishonest about it.

Aside from all that, I can't believe I missed this review when it was first posted... stunning result. Makes me think (a little, sort of) my Genelecs are outdated junk.

Looks like the A6B may be back on the table.
