I'm building a headphone "rig" and have so far got a Wiim mini and Hifiman Sundara phones. I need an amp for them - the aux out on the Wiim is not powerful enough.

From tests using the headphone out on my itegrated amp, I also want to raise the bass on the headphones.

Would I be best getting a headphone amp/DAC with tone controls (the only one I have found is a budget Fosi Q4 with bass and treble knobs), or using the EQ within the Wiim?
if the case of the distortion linked to a dcr "limiter" even in no eq mode is something a little particular, depending on the particular conditions.. and will certainly be quickly repaired
if for the use of a rather ambitious headphone .. it will take a quality eq or peq correction ...
this is clearly not the case... it is not very transparent and coarse..
but hey the mini ... it's 80 dollars and on many types of music will certainly not be too sensitive ...

maybe the computing power and the superior memory of the pro will allow a correction to a higher resolution, qualitative and transparent..

My device was updated to 4.6.435135 which is different than the ones you mentioned earlier.

The mechanical coupling among speaker movement, air and microphone, could lead to see some harmonics.
The problem of clipping, with a tone signal approaching 0dB is easily hearable even at low loudness, moving the wiim app volume cursor to max or setting it fixed, lot of harmonics come up. Try some lower freq, it's easier to hear distortions.

May I ask you to capture a response of this file with the current FW?

Thks, there is a fair difference in level between tone and harmonics too. Just looking for as clean output as possible, hear it or not. My grandkids might.

if it is the same test where you found " 0.13%" , then it is likely that they removed the drc (put to help manage clipping problems in " eq on "mode which has been bothering them for months).....
it just had no place in "no eq" mode ...where he degraded for no reason

it was "bit perfect"... as long as the drc didn't act with his little muscular arms...
;-)
any other returns to confirm this return to normal in no eq mode?

For what it can be, after a quick listening test of dual tone with wiim>DAC>Nad>headphones:
EQ off, no clipping distortion, neither at fixed volume, nor at maximum volume.
EQ on, distortion is evident, both at fixed volume and at maximum volume.
If you lower the volume by a notch or set a little downward on some frequency slider of the equalizer, the distortion seems disappear.
As far as I'm concerned, since I don't use the EQ, problem cleared, end of the "level crisis"...
