Nominate Your Favorite Track of 2024 (Contest)

I can't think of a single track that's greater than the rest, but any one of the weekly live shows from Emmet's Place in Harlem, every Monday afternoon, that took many of us jazz lovers through the lockdown up to the present, showcasing rising talents, as well as legends of jazz, is on my list.

Here's a single track from just one of the 126 live shows, with classy jazz singer Lucy Yeghiazaryan.

Fay Wildhagen, a great live recording from her latest (2024) album made at the Norwegian Folk Museum.

Something that's surprised me in a very good way - Amapiano. Wonderful sub sound and relaxed groove.
Nice to see Amapiano on this sub. Wouldn't have expected that which is funny cos I listen to Amapiano acts religiously too lol

So I guess it shouldn't really surprise me others here may have come across this infectious electronic music sub-genre that truly shines on properly bass managed systems

The new Blood Incantation is probably as much hated as it is adored, but if you don’t mind the crazy genre hopping (from Morbid Angel to King Crimson, Can, Pink Floyd) it’s pretty fun.

It's not fair to play on emotion, but what is music but narrative? Japanese composers have a style. It is pretty, but not excessively so.

One was Ryuichi Sakamoto. I have friends who were close with him, and one passed away untimely in 2022. So just a contribution and take this contribution out of competition.

As he was terminally ill he recorded a solo piano movie concert filmed by his son at NHK Studios. He recorded it over 8 days in 2022, died in 2023 and the recording was released in 2024, Grammy nominated. Very clean recording and the black and white film is worth a watch for lovers of original piano music. There are a lot of microphones in there and I wonder how it was mixed.

Not much - I was aware of it and read a few issues, but Gramophone and Fanfare met my needs more, as did Sound on Sound and "Recording" did later on when I started to record.

This is a very well recorded album-Jerry Douglas is a very well known musician here in Nashville and quite the virtuoso on dobro. Saw him open for Tedeschi Trucks at The Ryman and was blown away at his talent. Another track worthy of a listen is the 3rd track "What Might Have Been".

I only became aware of the pianist Angela Hewitt late this year. She is well known for her multiple recordings of the Well Tempered Clavier and the Goldberg Variations of Bach. She managed to record three generously filled CDs of the music of François Couperin. I never thought anyone could make sense of this harpsichord music on the modern piano, but she does it and brilliantly at that:
