Nominate Your Favorite Track of 2024 (Contest)

Folks, if you don't embed a way to play the track, likely people won't be able to experience the music and vote for you. Do a quick search in youtube and post the link.

Each time I hear this song I'm grabbed by its emotion, absorbed in its beautiful harmonics, and captivated by the tension in its brilliant composition. This is one of Steven's masterpieces.

Nik Bärtsch Ronin - SPIN

Apart from the not so good sound quality (they sounded much better on the ECM label) this is a terrific piece of music imho.

Loreen | Interval Act ESC-Finals 2024 | Forever Tattoo

Because of the strong message, the performance as such, her voice (live!) the 145 bpm, the deco, the coreo, the performance of the Swedish TV Broadcast, just perfect track in 2024, listened to it again and again last year.

Mod Edit: there is the video:

This is a very well recorded album-Jerry Douglas is a very well known musician here in Nashville and quite the virtuoso on dobro. Saw him open for Tedeschi Trucks at The Ryman and was blown away at his talent. Another track worthy of a listen is the 3rd track "What Might Have Been".

Jerry Douglas has been a busy man.
He produced two albums for Molly Tuttle, at least one of which, and maybe both, won a Grammy.
And he sat in on Bronwyn-Keith Hynes latest, nominated for a Grammy.
And sat in with Twisted Pine.
And this summer he tours with Alison Krauss.
I have followed his career since his early days with Ricky Skaggs, then later in AKUS.
He's an incredible musician, and I'll add that album on spotify.
(All these acts have been featured on our recent year end lists at gesprek.net )

Here is the link to the Jerry Douglas song.

This might not be the place for a discussion, and I can move or delete if this is out of place. I don't want to spoil the fun, that's for sure.

Still -
1) Including classical music is fraught with issues. The most important being that the call is for 'best track', but most classical pieces are inherently multi-movement and thus, multi-track. So you're often left with what classical music buffs derisively call 'bleeding chunks' from an extended performance.
2) The lead track by David/ Romany Gilmour is a video performance. To my experience, video performances on YouTube, whether live or in a studio, are an entirely different animal than studio produced audio tracks.
3) Finally, mixing genres. How do you compare across genre's?
I would suggest next time around, more limitations at the front end.

One thing that mitigates against all these issues, is that it's a reader poll, not an adjudication by a panel, so it's much more about the process than the result.

Agree esp on the Gilmour/Romany video recording-not great quality. Probably should have put the link to the studio version-may get more "likes".

Such a distinct voice, excellent singer and very nice composition with an attractive build-up. Sivert Høyem - The Rust.

My favourite so far, gave me shivers listening to it as well as watching the dismal landscape in the video. Thanks Tassin for the introduction to this artist.

Is there a single music track that really captured your heart in 2024? For me, this was it: the cover song by David Gilmour's daughter, Romany Gilmour: Between Two Points. I especially like this tour rehearsal video. The bass is distorted but the vocals are well recorded, highlighting the calm and beautiful voice of Romany:

The guitar segment at the end by David is a superb bonus, clearly demonstrating his mastery of the instrument.

Post your favorite song (NOT album). Members will vote with Like button. Whoever gets the highest number of likes, myself excluded, will get a gift from me come January 2nd. I will tally the results on the new year.

EDIT: Please only nominate one track.
