This might not be the place for a discussion, and I can move or delete if this is out of place. I don't want to spoil the fun, that's for sure.

Still -
1) Including classical music is fraught with issues. The most important being that the call is for 'best track', but most classical pieces are inherently multi-movement and thus, multi-track. So you're often left with what classical music buffs derisively call 'bleeding chunks' from an extended performance.
2) The lead track by David/ Romany Gilmour is a video performance. To my experience, video performances on YouTube, whether live or in a studio, are an entirely different animal than studio produced audio tracks.
3) Finally, mixing genres. How do you compare across genre's?
I would suggest next time around, more limitations at the front end.

One thing that mitigates against all these issues, is that it's a reader poll, not an adjudication by a panel, so it's much more about the process than the result.

Most music I tend to listen to is through buying CD's and then ripping them to my PC, less so through random streaming, and I've not bought all that much new music in 2024, but following is a track I like from an album I bought this year & also released this year:

Just thinking about it, this album is quite different from her previous albums I'd say, it hits a bit harder.

My album of the year came out in May from Canadian Power Metal band Unleash the Archers titled: Ph4/NT0mA. I love the every song for different reasons, but for the sake of the contest, I'm going to nominate the title track.

I thought it had to be released in 2024, to me that makes most sense for a thread, haven't read later replies to see if this is what was intended by this thread. Surely music released in 2024, and I've purposefully not voted for music people have shown that was made earlier than 2024.

Agree with this, certainly nothing released before July 2023. It's already a mile wide and deep. Not sure I can give everyone their due with so much to hear.

Yeah, it's hard, I've got to page 4 & burnt out, can't listen to anymore. First thing I've been doing is clicking on the link to Youtube so I can see when it was released and then if not released in 2024 then not even bothered listening to it. I'll have to return to this thread on another day and start back up from page 4 to continue to listen to what people have been posting up, too burnt out now to appreciate anything new today.

Yeah there is an advantage to winning to be on a early page. But for me just finding new good music/artists is a bonus. I don't expect to win. I could have named a dozen top 2024 tunes. I just picked the most innovative. That album had at least three.

Sorry amirm but David Gilmour suck on that track and his daugheter is just mediocre but nice production.

When I was a small child in kindergarten they taught us 'children if you can't say anything nice just be quiet and don't say anything' and I am so very sorry that you seemed to have missed that lesson.

Thing is, the question was what track really captured one's heart. François Couperin's suites consist of lots of short works and the Angela Hewitt collections of Couperin place the works out of order, though she is not the first to do so. And that little piece really did capture my heart.
