Nice turntables. Attached picture is an absolute requirement.

ha ! ready for this ? left to right : treble - bass - loudness

my wife had it redone and it is functional (but I wouldn't torture my records with that needle, not that guy)

I really like it and am also a fan of Matsushita Electric because I sold and the serviced the gear in warranty and it was wonderful to work on their stuff and deal with the company. I also like that there is no 8-track player. I hate 8-track but it was necessary at the time.

fully integrated dustcover - can AI build that ? I don't think so

Update on my Sansui 929. I found an eBay listing for a plinth in much better shape than mine so I decided to give swapping it out a try, and I'm here to show the success. My previous plinth had some bubbling in the finish that always annoyed me. I didn't hold out for one in better condition because the electronics were perfect and what are the odds I'd ever find another in such close proximity that I could drive under an hour to avoid shipping it?

Having the plinth alone without any of the guts gave me a wonderful opportunity to hit it with some Meguiar's car care products. I was able to completely eliminate any minor scuffs and swirling and significantly reduced the visual of a scratch on the side. I used a Sharpie oil-based black pen to fill in a few small chips in the corners, and the gloss finish matches the mirror finish.

This was my first time soldering, and I was excited to get it hooked back up without any issues. I made sure to get a couple good shots of the internals.

To me it looks like the "hole" is just some old(?) flux that was pooling in the curve between the post and the wire and has turned close to black in color over time.

I could be wrong though :D

The wire was definitely wrapped around the terminal I do remember looking at it. I’m by no means qualified to commend on that stuff and greatly appreciate you looking out for that in my photos!

My dad sold those, in the late 60s. He was one of the first Panasonic dealers in Chicago, with a store on the South Side. It wasn't the nicest/cleanest place, it was carved out of an old movie theater, with minimal renovation. Periodically quality control technicians from Panasonic would visit the store to make sure everything was displayed and set up properly; watching a couple of guys in white coats moving slowly down the store aisles, one writing furiously on a clipboard, was a hoot.

re: Panasonic : I once saw a survey of domestic hifi consumers in Japan. You would expect perhaps Sony or Nakamichi(survey from I think 1990) would be the most respected manufacturer but no . . . Panasonic
Cheers

I'm not at all surprised. Sony was and is is a mess (I say that as a stockholder), and their high end has always been somewhat lower than Panasonic's high end. Nakamichi's biggest reputation was for their tape decks, and tape was on the outs by the 90s.

The Nakamichi TX-1000 turntable was a marvel. The Dragon CT came later but was also stunning.

I agree, though not many were sold (and they probably didn't actually make it themselves). However, their reputation was for tape, and by 1990 CD was already king.

Cool with the yellow colors that shine through on your record player. I see you also have yellow cables. :)

Then you should have speakers that fit in terms of style. ;) KRK with their classic yellow color on their drivers maybe?

B&W has a lot of (passive) speaker models with yellow drivers in them. Some B&W speakers can have a rather strange FR, but the color is yellow anyway. :)

Speaking of color matching in yellow. Here a record player and speakers from PRO-JECT:

I'm big into records. I know they're 'inferior' to digital media. I know. Don't bother me with reason. Every time I spin a record, I'm reminded why I still have my record hoard. My old records just sound really really good to me. Music is more fun played from the microscopic grooves cut into a spinning plastic disk shaking a tiny rock at the end of a big stick.

To me, at least. I guess that means I'm deaf or have really bad taste in sound quality. So be it.

But yes, if you don't own any records ("vinyls") now, I would go the all-digital route. It's so much cheaper and easier, and of course far superior in a purely technical, objective sense. Records cost $30 each and more now. Good turntables and tonearms are expensive these days. It costs A LOT to get really good record playback, $1000 to start for the player alone (and not including the RIAA EQ preamp). Probably not worth it at this point. But... I like my records.

My purely subjectively fun sounding player of choice:

We're within a year or two of the same age, believe it or not. Yeah, we're old.

I also have this old thing. It's more charming, and a lot more valuable these days.

The RIAA EQ preamp I use is something a friend and I built using (gasp!) TUBES. I'm sure it measures execrably. Yet... I still enjoy the sound from vinyl records every bit as much as when I play my digital file collection (Raspberry Pi running Moode Audio > Topping D10 DAC > 'passive preamp' > Behringer A800 amp > JBL Studio 530 speakers). Some records sound better than their remastered digital versions. I can't explain it.
