focused on purchasing a new turntable... SNR >70db

Place the stylus on a stationary record, play Deep purple Highway stat on loud volome from CD or streaming while you also record the TT. This records the feedback/micro bony in a repeatable fashion. You will be surprised how well you can recognise Highway star from the recorded feed back.

A second test is top a small hard ball from 2-3 inches height onto the TT stand and record the impact with with a stationary record and while playing a song…,

Those methods helped me find the best isolation under my Thorens TD125mk2 suspended TT.

Indeed! bounce has never been an issue here, maybe I an lucky, maybe the SME V, wow is 0.05% peak, same as Technics 1200

But isn't it supposed to bounce according to the ‘bounce test’?

I could always adjust the springs so that the washers just sit on the frame but then it’s not really suspended

Yes ic can bounce but not very deep. The felt pads are barely touching and provide som damping , while isolation is still active..

The suspension only helps against structural born vibrations, but does nothing to airborne vibrations...
take a look at this, many do not think about microphony ... Some day I will put on the densodamp I have

Here I have recordet from stylus on a stationary record and Streaming music at 85db while recording from TT. People should try themselves

Microphony amplified 40 db.. I can hear the beat and understand the lyrics just fine

Have you ever tried any magnetic isolation devices on your turntables? Example below

No . I do not think it is any good idea, considering a suspended turntable with a separate motor pod with a drive belt is a oscillating spring-mass system, making an extra loose connection by levitation does not appeal to my ingenieur mind.Michell off levitation feet too… I think it would probably worsen speed stability due to motor-belt-chassis movement. I would like to see some wow and flutter data and microphony test before evaluating it further.
Damping the chassis with densodamp is something I would do before any levitation. I am looking for soft feet , I wish Michell would offer that instead of spiked feet that are no good . I wonder if Technideck feet could be used…

PS I use rubber pads under my Gyros feet

You made that up
Nope, I'm not that creative! But when I was putting together my Numark portable turntable project, I wanted a new counterweight which had greater density than the stock pot-metal part, so I looked up tables of elements and their densities, eliminating those which were theoretical, radioactive, costly, or otherwise toxic. And was surprised to discover that tungsten has greater density than lead, gold, mercury, even uranium. And that tunsten is sold in putty or metallic form as fishing tackle and for the Pinewood Derby crowd.

I needed a weight for a little SMSL PO100 USB to optical converter and research led me to the same surprise. I still want gold, maybe one day. Nice to know about the putty, pinewood was lead when I was a kid. Tasted great :)

Yeah, I like gold too. Not so much as an investment as for it's non-tarnishing luster. Someday I might want to gold-leaf a wall.

If we consider in the context of a Technics table, does that change the equation?

It's the putty part I wasn't familiar with, thanks

I"m considering buying their Levis feet.

It will be very interested to learn from your experience. I plan to buy a Orbe clamp , it wil flatten record better than my present Michell push down clamp

Every time I think about the technical benefits of a Technics, I know I'd regret getting rid of the visual art of the Michell.

If I want flawless, I have digital.
I found a solution to that problem.. sort of.The CD player went to the cabinet below, I stream my digital music anyway.

Well ... Technics is cheaper than Michell, that aspect is important also.
I think a 1200 mk7 or maybe a GR2 are the top limits, above that you don't get a worth real improvement in analog format.

Paying that much would be ... worthless (even in digital, I don't think DACs and/ or streamers / cd players above 1k worth it)

I don't think any realistic Michell owners argue that it gives better value for money or technical performance than a GR2.

That's not why I own mine.

I like it because it's a cool piece of engineering, visually interesting, easy to change arms, easy to add a 2nd arm, super easy to maintain or fix, and fun to tinker with.

DD is much easier to maintain, you need to do ... nothing :-)
i have a 1982 Technics working flawlessly at perfect pitch and since 2 years a brand new mk7.

Tinkering with turntables is a special need, and i respect that and your decision but, surely you also understand it's not the common case ... and for 99% people wanting to get the best bang for the buck with analog ... i woudn't recommend a Michell against Technics.

My opinion is only to clear that (a general rule for a general case), obviously not to discuss what you want / like (personal preferences aren't debatable).
