Nice turntables. Attached picture is an absolute requirement.

Yes, I replaced the tonearm. I couldn't get the original Fairchild 500 arm to work, unfortunately.

This is my first TT ever. Mofi StudioDeck. I chose it and not the Rega, because is matt black, the name mofi sounds cooler than rega, the button glows orange and other orange accents. In general looks much cooler than the P3 in my opinion.

What kind of age expectancy does one have for the belt used on the sweet turntable?

Thank you :D IC.
I used to have a Strathclyde turntable, belt driven of course. The company went out of business long before I got the turntable and ran for a long time, but the belt stretched out of shape. Could not find a replacement. This is something like 30 years I'm talking about here. But still . . .

I had a long round thick and very nicely compliant belt required for a J A Michell Engineering Hydraulic Transcription Turntable or whatever it was called. I was eventually led to the sales rep for Canada and he hooked me up with one at no charge.

Good on you.
My question is "how long will MoFi be in the turntable game?"
This is one of a number of reasons why, if I had to make the choice all over again, I would choose a direct drive turntable

Interesting question and I think that some enthusiasts for whatever reasons gravitate to belt drive as do direct drive proponents do to the DD. It a choice...

At least 15 years. The belt on my VPI Traveler is similar and is that old without being stretched out of shape.

Wow that is some high grade rubber stuff. I have seen many a tape deck with melted and gummy belts after 7-8 years.

Is it even spinning the right way?
No. No it is not.

Though, to be fair, you could just reverse the motor direction and the cartridge and it would be the right direction. Or just have the tone arm on the back or the other side…

Has anyone made a turntable where the tone arm mounts on the front right quadrant?

What would be the effect of

Or just have the tone arm on the back or the other side…
The theory is to have the tonearm pull back and the record flip automatically, though I guess in that case the tonearm is still effectively in the wrong place.

If they ever built a prototype, rather than stopping with the mock-up, they would probably work out that it is playing backwards. Or maybe hear some demonic messages, or learn that Paul is dead.

I don’t know if anybody here appreciated Art Dudley’s writing (I did) but here he is in a fairly brief video discussing some turntables. I enjoy hearing him talk. (and sadly the video description says this was taken on the very day he got his terminal cancer diagnosis.)
