Most beautiful speakers in the world ?

On the matter of decibels...

For me, the listening distance is about 2.8 metres, and the volume is set at around 20%. When listening to classical music, sometimes even that can feel a bit too loud.

Damn better not cozy up to the acoustic guitar player or god forbid horns! Duck the soprano is about to sing! Damn drums run! That chart is meaningless it has no real world context without duration as far as "sounds above 70dB are harmful"

As always a sprinkle of common sense rules!

I remember I once experienced pain in my left ear sitting about 3m away from a soprano singer, it was that loud

By the way, has anyone seen a speaker designed this way? It is meant to be quite shallow, filled with acoustically absorptive material, and has at least two thin sides open.

In all seriousness, I do wonder about their fellow performers.
Sometimes a soprano is belting out an impressively loud aria only inches away from the ears of others on stage.

Yes they really can impress the sheer power of their voices. It's a thing of beauty and an lot of work and training.

I suppose sound intensity is measured in decibels. How can we control that intensity?
With the volume knob?

My Mark Levinson preamp displays -dB from 100%.... meaning if you manage your system gain properly, at 0.0dB on the display you are hitting the system's maximum output capability.

I typically playback at -40dB, but occasionally will turn it up to -10dB which is damned loud.

Yes but for HT you calibrate to 85dB @ -20 no using pink noise? So full level 105 would be zero? I am in the -35 to 30 typical depending on the source level with an occasional -10 which can get loud!
