I can’t not think of Darth Vader’s helmet when seeing those stand mount speakers.
Does anyone know why there is that long funnel behind the tweeter?
Is it just to kill the "back wave"?
Do people really think that sound "waves" would simply turn around and go away along those round baffle surface?to another level in rounding the baffle
I think "standing waves" and "diffraction" are two key concepts...Do people really think that sound "waves" would simply turn around and go away along those round baffle surface?
If there are "standing waves," they'd cancel each other, and that "diffraction," those diffracted sound waves won't reach you. There are various theories on this, but I don't think anyone has arrived at a valid conclusion yet. There are many patents on this matter, but patents are not necessarily scientific theories.I think "standing waves" and "diffraction" are two key concepts...

Barbapapas! Love them.View attachment 429042
Mine. Ok, I've posted one of these before, but only now that I have both I can see how different they are. They took the 1022b to another level in rounding the baffle, and I believe this had a positive effect on performance. As for looks, it was all a result of function, which makes them an interesting couple. They were aimed at recording/broadcast industry and considering this was 1985, I don't think styling was high in priority with Genelec. To me, of the first Star Wars generation, they look great, and what's more important - they sound amazing
. These are in my music room, so no WAF involved

And, it doesn't have a funnel...but, a tire around the twitter.Remind me ofView attachment 429064
The general design, not the funnel itselfAnd, it doesn't have a funnel.
Of course! The general design, not the funnel itself![]()
What is that wavy thing for?Of course!

But this is interesting! The wavy thing.
And, that big speaker is also interesting, it is more like funnel than a "cone."
You can't really judge a speaker's sound based upon a YouTube video, playing over your own speakers or headsets. While such videos can be fun with descriptive narration, they are pretty much useless. As for being a "bookshelf" speaker, I can't think of ANY speaker design that would sound better tucked into a bookshelf opening, unless you are into muddy booming bass.I can't find any videos in YouTube with some music playing on those. In all those videos all they do is talking, nothing else. If you find a link, let me know please.
Even if they call them bookshelf speakers, you can't put them on a bookshelf with those bass reflex holes at the back, right?
Exactly! As for being a "bookshelf" speaker, I can't think of ANY speaker design that would sound better tucked into a bookshelf opening, unless you are into muddy booming bass.

You can stick 'em in a bookshelf, but how do they sound?
