I’m still a sucker for a slim floor stander with a nice wood finish. Somebody’s DIY:

I too like aesthetic beauty of these wood-finish floor standers, but I still always concern about the "physical stability"... Please refer to my post #3,056 on this thread.
In my post #3,056, I wrote;
We can see/look so many beautiful and elegant tallboy-style floor-standing speakers on this really enjoyable thread.

Many people are living in diastrophism countries/areas, however, including myself in Japan, and I am (we are) always much concerned about the physical stability of these speakers especially against lateral vibration (i.e. horizontal shaking) given by an earthquake.

1. The heavier the total weight,
2. The lower the height of gravity-center from the supporting base,
3. The wider the surface area of the supporting base (area covered by the supporting spikes/legs),
"the better" the stability against lateral vibration.

We can usually find/calculate on the catalog or spec-sheet total weight and supporting base area, but we do not always know the height of gravity center; we need to speculate/guess the height of the gravity center.

My observations on these speakers always include this "physical stability" perspective.

That’s too bad to have to actually consider earthquakes with whatever you buy!

Fortunately, not a problem for us in Toronto.

Still a slim floor stander has to be made stable. My very slim Joseph audio speakers come with fairly wide outriggers. And I further built a granite platform for them, which is itself spiked into the carpet. The result is very stable speakers:
