Deciding Between NCX500, Purifi Eigentakt and Nilai

I’m getting ready to replace my 7 year old Emotiva BasX A300 amp. I’ve narrowed it down to three choices, NCX500, Purifi Egentakt or Nilai. After researching this forum it seems that all 3 choices will sound the same. So I’ve concluded the NCX500 would be the most cost effective. The Purifi Eigentakt seems to be getting the most attention from reviewers. The Hypex Nilai is the latest and greatest and the most expensive choice.

So the VTV NCX500 is likely going to be my choice. Am I missing anything?

No that is about it. Buy one from a retailer/manufacturer with good reputation on support/after sale and you are golden

Monoprice has amps with Hypex modules, too. They usually stand behind their products.

Buckeye Amps has good prices on solid amp builds that are simple and cost effective.

None of the three are outrageously expensive. I chose the Hypex Nilai stereo, largely because of Amir's review and because I liked the form factor, the simplicity of the internal layout and the case. After more than a week of listening, I am happy with my choice. I'm sure you will be satisfied no matter what your decision.

NCX500 has more power in 8oms though than Purifi.

If you buy a Purifi amp with a Hypex SMPS1200 power supply which most amps use with 2 or 3 channels, make sure it uses J4 (ribbon cable) on the power supply. And then if it does find out whether signals DC Error and Amp ON are used. DC error guards against any DC put through the Amp and trips out the power supply. Amp On allows 1 second for the buffer amp to stabilize before the Purifi amp is turned on, thus avoiding the above.

Where did you buy your Nilai kit?

I'm for NCx500
- it's more powerfull than Purifi
- In high gain it's less distortion than in Nilai
- it's better in mid power in trebble

See this

Nilai, 15K-10K good but higher than NCx500 by 10-15db in mid Power, for example at 20Watt (for me it's about 92-94dB)

Right - but what frequency is the first harmonic of that 15kHz? By my estimate it is around 30kHz:cool: Do you think that is audible?

Basically distortion above 10Khz is inaudible because it is ultrasonic.

I think IMD theoretically leaks in audible bandwidth. Overall these AMPs are great. Just for me, I found that AMPs with lower treble distortion are more "preferable". But in general, these distortions (I guess) are inaudible.

This is from Hypex Measurements for NCx500, 20-20000HZ bandwidth

Basically lower -100db for 100watt and below.

Why does the VTV list output at 500 watts into 4 ohms? Are they using a tighter THD cutoff than Hypex, who spec it at 700?

I had a similar choice last night - fetucini, pene, spaghetti, fusili and others I cant recall (red wine effect).

No real wrong choice here, all capable amplifiers.

One more question, much fuss has been made about the Purifi 1ET400A Eigentakt by reviewers. What is it that distinguishes the Eigentakt from the NCX500 or Nilai (if anything)?

It has a really German sounding name :D not much otherwise. They are all great amps.
