Contemplating Wharfedale Linton Heritage 85th Anniversary Edition

... i am in the process of investing in something modest which can deliver class-D amplification and have EQ with proper room measurement if that will ever exist in a more affordable price point! cheers!
Hi hawk01, if you are in europe, for less than 500€ you can get from Audiophonics a stereo power amp based on Hypex NC252mp, stellar performance for the price, like the Lintons! Then add a Topping DAC and a Raspberry Pi with Volumio.
Provided you have a microphone (or get a UMIK for 100€), with Volumio's Fusion DSP plugin you can have parametric room equalization for free. Volumio's premium subscription can connect to Qobuz for hi-res streaming.
With this <2000€ configuration you are near to the very best of achievable performance. Also check https://pierreaubert.github.io/spinorama/eqs.html to equalize a minor issue with the Lintons and in theory you reach an Olive's score of 6.4, and you're near to the best Revels...

much appreciated inputs sir! sadly we do not have those market sources here in southeast asia. importing can be a big pain and costly as well. fortunately my present setup using daphile PC is capable of accepting EQ in the form of Brute FIR. while all of this is overwhelming to me at best, the friend who taught me daphile PC will also walk me through setting up Brute FIR. this finally leads me to where i originally started, considering class-D amplification once again!

i hope the local audio market forces get their heads out of the sand and begin to realize there is much more to amplification than what tubes and transistors have to offer. while most of the world is already enjoying the cost and efficiency of class-D, here it is still barely making itself noticed.☹️

In China, it only costs $599 a pair. But few people bought it, people seem to have stereotypes about the brand

hi @dougi i hope you are happy and content with the lintons by now as your measurements show decent performance with nothing broken out of the ordinary. i am presently considering the lintons in my modestly treated 3.8 x 5.4m size dedicated HT room which is significantly a smaller area than yours. i am presently using revel m16s for mixed stereo music and HT fronts duty and i must say they are immensely good! perhaps their only known fault if its a fault at all is that their measured bass boost as per ASR review can manifest itself as boomy in some recordings if i had to nitpick but its otherwise generally a good thing in overall use.

my intent for considering the lintons:

1. the performance benefit of a 3-way speaker and better, deeper bass with the 8in woofer with larger volume cabinet.
2. i hope it will not exhibit the same boomy nature as the revel m16s in my room.
3. i hope these will fare well without any EQ and subwoofer augmentation since they shall be placed well into the room away from the walls.
4. amplification is a NAD C326BEE since i only have a small room and this one has decent low impedance drive capability.
hi @hawk01 ! You use NAD C326BEE, and your room is about 20 m2? How does Linton perform?
I have NAD C328 (50W@8ohm) and my room is about 13 m2.
I'm considering buying Linton 85th.

i would say the lintons perform excellent for my use case mixed stereo and HT duties. the room is modestly treated. in the absence of any DSP tuning the speakers do not call any undue attention to itself. the more important mid-bass region does not excite the room in any offensive manner which i was weary on the get go since these are large boxes with very capable drivers. My suggestion is not to go for Lintons for such a small room. I had them in a 25m² space and they completely filled it (I have a REL sub, but with the Lintons, I didn’t even need it). In such a small room, there will be too much bass and they won’t be able to show their true potential.
Instead, look for some smaller bookshelf speakers.
