Most beautiful speakers in the world ?

Actually, surprisingly one of the nicest looking loudspeakers I’ve had in my room where the Waveform Mach Solo loud speakers that I reviewed a long time ago.

I’d written at the time;

My review pair came in a sinfully lustrous quilted makoré. While the Solos may look odd in photos, in person they evince a level of craftsmanship that almost vaults them into the object de’ art category.”

And that certainly how I remember them.

The most surprising thing was that my wife, who usually had to divert her gaze from the loudspeakers coming through my room because she didn’t care for the looks of any of them… she surprised me: as soon as she saw them, she said something like “ those are beautiful can’t we have these ones?”

They sounded awesome as well!

In fact, they are one of those “ ones that got away” in my audio history. Few speakers are as rare on the used audio market because they had just started production when waveform closed for business.

I would keep my eye out for them and it was like once every 10 or 15 years one would show up.

And when one finally did show up on the Market, it was like a unicorn: it was the last one ever made, they had actually been modified by the company owner himself, they were a ridiculously cheap price, and the person selling them was in my own city within driving distance!

Except at that very moment, I’ve had a downturn in my finances and could not afford to buy them. Literally any time before or after those showed up, I could’ve bought them except for that moment. And then, of course, they disappeared.

That was 2019 I think and I figured I’d never see another pair again,

And then, what do I find out? That literally somebody on ASR had offered a pair up for sale a year or two ago and I had no idea.

Anyway… first world problems….

The most beautiful speakers I know are my :) Fischer & Fischer SN 450, whose cabinets are made of natural slate:

They are a joy to me even when I am not listening to music with them, because every time I walk past them I have to touch and savour the rough slate surface, they have been making me happy for almost 20 years now!

The slate and the speakers come from the small town of Bad Fredeburg in Sauerland in Germany, just round the corner from me, locally grown so to speak.;)

I had the pleasure of meeting Thomas Fischer, the owner of the company, at a hi-fi trade fair. It was then when I came in touch(!) with his beautiful speakers for the first time and immediately fell in love with them. Thomas is a really nice person and it was fun to talk to him about his wonderful speakers. Later, I was also able to see the production of the speakers in Bad Fredeburg. A little insight. ‘Works of art that sound good’ is the title of the newspaper article (in German, sorry).

The successors are the SN 470 and now have AMT tweeters, but still look as beautiful as ever.

Fischer & Fischer SN 470

This all sounds like advertising now, but I am really enthusiastic about Mr Fischer, his company, his loudspeakers and especially my own Fischer & Fischer SN 450! And I'm not being paid for it, of course.

PS Almost forgot, the SN 450 sound great too! Although so different, they are my absolute favourite speakers next to my QUAD ESL57s. And the QUADs are perhaps not necessarily the most beautiful:

Wow, Deepl's English is so much better than mine!

Be careful you don't skin your knuckles doing the housing rap test. ;)

I’ve always had a soft spot for the look of the bronze grill 57s! I love the way they look.
