Still don't know how I'm going to get a house in Big Sur with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the Pacific and still have a good sounding home theater in it, though. Maybe have to settle for headphones for that use case and build the theater in the bunker, Guess you can't have it all, no matter what.
Gotta go glass: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/...rich-glass-speakers.52563/page-3#post-1898437

Just hope for some improvements before you need to buy.

Would be nice if they mounted one in a normal cabinet, with that 10 inch woofer. Or maybe with 4 extra 10 inch woofers a la blade.
Wouldn't be too hard to build cabinets for this. Don't think you'd want to have them pointed at you in a normal setup though, they'd be awfully bright.

$10,000 USD to put four in the ceiling for a 7.1.4 setup... that's $14,000 CAD. That's not happening.

Shame because those are some damn impressive measurements.
Talk to a KEF dealer. There is no reason at all to pay full retail pricing.

I know but even after a solid discount it's still at least $10k CAD. That's a hefty chunk of change for speakers that won't even be on for most content.

If money were no object I'd take a serious look, but even as a lawyer with a spouse who also makes a good income, this is well outside my budget.

Fun to make one like this handsome beast, rip out the passive xover and go dsp active.

Huh... they're using the damping material to attenuate the resonance of the chamber in front of the LF driver.

I figured that something like that would help with a DIY coax build I have in mind.

It's hard to ignore the price on this one, amazing design or not.
And yet, are there many solutions like this, passively built with concentric design's directivity, superb extension without enclosure, and linearity? Genuine question, because from my head I can only conjure Neumann and Genelec active monitors, aside from KEFs own full bodied alternatives.

Yes, but I think the focus here is more on musical performance in the sense of 4 stereo speakers in the ceiling directed at the couch (MLP)
After all it's a 10 000 dollar for 4 unit
And there's no need for a woofer.
So this will be for those who don't want big boxes around the room.
Or the woman holds them by the ⚽
Seems fitting you that in the circumstances you describe, there is but a single one of those.

On my 7.2.4 setup I use 4 ceiling Micca M-8C, $50 each, I feel so cheap now...but they look quite good with the white grills, anyway does anyone knows how good your ceiling speakers have to be to make any difference? after listening so many ATMOS songs, is my feeling the quality of ceiling speaker is not paramount.

It can produce a much louder sound than my LS50 Meta! That's amazing!
Considering it's a 3-way, has a 10" woofer, and is more than a pair of the LS50 Metas, it's hardly surprising. To be expected, in fact.

I have to wonder if it would be possible to drop the mid-tweeter unit from those into an LS 50 cabinet and get a much more performant speaker. Maybe for sale as a spare part? I think the mid-tweet is the same size as the LS 50 Meta unit.

We wouldn't want to quote that out of context! ;)

But those talking about Atmos, these are not really aimed at that use case, although can used in that way... would be a bit of a waste though.

I wonder if KEF had any idea they would be using UNI-Q tech developed from decades ago to make this today.

Yeah I've got pretty cheap ceiling speakers in my setup as well and they seem fine.
