great - thanks! Would you have any views about sound quality? Like, would this DAC be reasonably compatible?

Are you talking about headphone amp / DAC synergy? That's an audiophile myth.

Meanwhile, the S8 it is so freaking accurate that it is arguably noise and distortion free within the range of human hearing unless you over crank the volume. So it will give you crystal clear sound.

The ones on the S8 are so broad (in terms of change in output) as to be unusable anyway. Im all for buttons with sensible increments though.

Would have been nice if it weren't so steep but they also work well enough as emergency mute buttons. Unless a dongle comes with advanced app functionality like E1DA stuff, there's really no reason for one to not have hw buttons these days and ages, especially when their prices keep getting higher by the day.

I bought a Hidiz after reading the test about the excellent measured values it has. Unfortunately, the mechanical quality is lousy. The actual cable that you connect to the mobile is lousy and broke after two days. However, I got a new cable, only to soon be able to state that there is a gap in the micro-usb connector itself. Sometimes the DAC works, but if I move a little, it usually loses contact and the DAC becomes stone dead. I definitely do not recommend this one.

No I wasn't thinking of synergy or anything like that. Just that Amirm said in his original review at page 1 that the DAC sounded better on his Hifiman headphones and in his words "plenty of volume with very clean, detailed and high fidelity sound". So while I'm ok without high volumes, I was worried this suggests the Senheiser HD650 have less 'clean, detailed and high fidelity' sound playing from the S8. I don't understand the science of it; possibly distortion begins to appear at lower volumes or more amplification is needed to produce the detail??

Maybe I got lucky but mine is fine. The cable seems fine and the connections are perfect after several months of everyday use.

OK.

@Veri already answered that for you :)

I think im going to end up returning my Sonata HD Pro. I really like it except for one issue thats going to drive me insane; the popping/clicking when audio starts and stops. I was trying to use this DAC for general PC use, so youtube, gaming, music, and while I dont originally remember having this issue, it definitely has been bad the last few days. Sigh. The price and performance are there, just this one fault.

Edit: I dont know if I should gamble on another unit. "Yannick Khong" on a facebook budget audiphile group reviewed the Sonata HD Pro, had the same issue, so he chose not to keep it, but later got another one and the issue wasnt present in the second one.

Has anyone else had the issue and gotten a second one that works without the popping?
Did you fix this issue? Im struggling with this annoying clicks after a sound ends, really bad for general Pc use.

Amir wrote that the s8 "The fidelity was there but not the huge bass impact " for the hd650, has anyone tried it with the hd6xx/650 with this tell me how much of a problem it is when using it? I am currently considering to buy this with the hd 6xx.
