Hello, I'm curious, what is the actual max SPL (@1m) of this speaker, and can you tell that from the graphs (how)? They advertise 104dB. How is that defined, is it based on the amount of distortion or compression? Thanks
There are details on the spec in the manual. It's 104dB from 100hz to 3khz averaged in half-space @1m. And the answer to your question is that you can't really tell. You can make a guess based on how the distortion looks at 96dB, but that's about it. Reviews don't contain comprehensive max SPL testing.
In this case, distortion was hitting 20% at 60hz and ~94dB, and 40% at 30hz and 68dB. 96dB is probably very close to the limit for <100hz. 96dB is also listed in the manual as the max RMS output(still in half-space) using IEC weighted noise, which is apparently pink noise played for 16 hours(!). So that is probably a reasonable spec for <100hz output.
