I think a lot of people are switching to the A8 to simplify their system if they have an analog vinyl turntable for example.

but I am more in the perspective of having the best of each element (and therefore as transparent as possible).

This is something I reckon I do not understand. If the A6 is 100% transparent, both as DAC and as preamp, it is impossible to improve by definition. Then why release a much "better" product? is it a marketing gimmick?

The A-8 does come close to what a 21st century ‘pre-amp’ should look like.

It’s ‘better’ because it has more features and is more versatile, it’s ‘better’ for me because the margins are higher.

The A8 is for a different customer segment, those who want a more high-end Streamer-Dac. The device is bigger, with a bigger screen, with AKM's most premium DAC chip, it's a bit like Rose with its entry-level 250 streamer and the 150 plus for high-end customers (bigger device, superior DAC chip and big screen).

Screen is the same size. DAC is more premium, but according to Purite Audio it will sound the same

Sorry, same size, the DAC is a high end DAC, the same LEVEL as the Z8 DAC at ESS (9038 pro), Keith had tested the A6 with this DAC he had not noticed any real audible difference. Let's see what the new volume control does in pre-amp use.

This part of the review, I admit, was what made me consider the updgrade:

a considerably smoother, organic, and life-like sounding unit…. The sound is fuller, considerably richer, more textured, heavier, ballsier, more dynamic and explosive sounding. A8 has a strong kick in the lowest octaves, adding lots of body and sweetness in the midrange area, things that weren’t there on the A6”
These statements, when talking about a DAC, are the exact opposite one wants hear. Also, seems just the kind of bias everyone would - unconsciously - experience when told a product is an evolution / upgrade of an existing one... I don't drink at that fountain, sorry... especially when there is proven experience in DAC circuitry implementation by the company; Amir has shown us the A6 measures very well, so I expect the A8 doing so, if not better, thus leaving all the "richness-fullness-punchier-explosive-sweetness-blablablaness" out of the equation would be what I'd be looking to not hear from a technically-competent and ethically-correct reviewer (which the one in context appears not to be, at least technically).

It could sound ‘different’ if Eversolo have added some audible distortion to the A-8 , I don’t see them doing that though do you?

Can you control the screen on the Rose 250 from the app, as with the Eversolo, or in the Rose there are functions that need physycal finger on the screen?

The Rose 250 works in a similar way to the Eversolo, but can be controlled using a phone application, and can be switched on and off using the same application. The application is not as clear as that of the Eversolo and the Rose uses an older Android version, Android 7. I've just sold mine a few days ago, a profitable operation, as I have the DMP A6.

Thanks! So you prefer the A6? Dont you miss the screen of the Rose, the softer sound, the EQ?

I didn't use the EQ function, the A6 screen is enough for me. Rose does have a softer sound, but I have the Gustard R26 which has this softer profile and is superior to Rose. I sold it for 1,200 euros, so it was a good deal.

You can always place some socks over the tweeters.

Because I'm using the DMP-A6 and the RS250, I would not say, that one of them is really better.
The Rose is a bit better processed (but also the Eversolo is ok), a much bigger screen andan included remote.
While the Rose has also a (simple) video player (showing the pictures on the own display or through the hdmi out), has the DMP-A6 a very special HDMI audio out, which supports PCM and DSD upto 5.1. This is in the streamer world unique!
The Eversolo has the option for sideloading APKs (on the Rose you can only use the apps from Rose itself).
In the beginning the Rose firmware was a disaster (if you'd not used it as Roon endpoint only). Now after some updates it has becomes a bit better, but far away from to be perfect.
Firmware developers from Eversolo are here much better (and faster) and you can control the DMP-A6 (also with casting the screen) it better.
The SQ? I'm using for both superior external DACs and avoid so also the internal volume control (both are IMHO not perfect preamps)...
