Oh man, I'm shocked. I was choosing between Eversolo A6 ME Gen2 and A8 and thought, that A8 will be better option, because of superior dac and other internals...
The DAC is fine, but preamp section just don't work if you use A8 as a streamer. You need to have either preamp and amp, or integrated amp and then no issues. A8 preamp will work if you connect lets say CD player to A8's analog inputs. Then yes, you will get preamp with 10dg gain. But I don't have one to check, my main reason for byuing A8 was that it can stream music and work as preamp. As I found the last one is not fully true.

Amir's measurements clearly point out 4 Vrms for balanced an 2 Vrms for SE.
Why should this not be enough?

That was a suprise for me as well, because I decided to buy A8 after Amir's review. I have no idea what's wrong with analog output on A8, but it is not only my device has this issue. maybe Amir can comment how this is happened. I have even made FR measurement while A8 was connected directly to power amp. See attached. Clearly fast drop off after 10kHz which is not normal. And that's what I was hearing - complete lack of high freqs

That alone does not confirm an issue with the A8 itself.

The A8 configuration, Amp, speakers, room acoustics, and microphone position are still factors in that response graph. All unknown.

Though if you had a graph showing the in-room response once with the A8 in factory default and once with some other DAC, with everything else the same between runs (e.g. Mic mounted on a tripod for consistent placement), and the response graph with the A8 showed treble roll-off whereas the other DAC does not, then that would be a solid indication.

Of course, the ideal way to go about this would be to measure the frequency response directly at the A8's Line out, using an audio interface or something like the Cosmos ADC.

Sure, but I repeated measurements once I returned my former Rotel preamp and connected A8 through Rotel to power amp. Here is the FR. BTW, mic is Umik 1 with calibration file and I have zero room acoustics.

That is still just circumstantial evidence with lots of factors unaccounted for.

Make the measurements in one session, with the same software (REW ideally), with identical microphone position and the A8 and Rotel reset to factory defaults, only switching between A8 Line out and A8 Digital out to the Rotel, and you have actually useful data that Eversolo engineers can work with and Eversolo Warranty department can take as proof of damage to your unit.

All measurements were done from the same listening position, using the same mic. Before I even started to take measurements , I was listening to A8 for 2 weeks directly connected to my power amp. And I was not happy. I was thinking that my tweeters failed , that's how bad the sound was. Then I started measurements and the FR shocked me. After that I returned my Rotel pre amp, connected it to A8 using line out on A8 and boom! My tweeters came back. So I decided to take second measurements with Rotel pre amp and FR confirmed that no issues after 10khz. Even if a put aside issue with high freq, you don't get 10db gain on line out from A8 if you use it as a streamer! Only this means that your amp is not up to its full potential. When I was using A8 as preamp I could easily set volume to -8db! This is almost max. I have power amp with 380W into 8 and 700W into 4 omhs. My speakers 93db sensitivity. It is obvious that implementation of preamp section in A8 is a trash.

My unit is not damaged . It's the way Eversolo implemented preamp section. No gain, low output volume levels. That's it. I am just sharing my experience . I am also not alone with this issue . There's a thread on Zidoo forum about this, and I did not open that thread, I found it once I realised that something wrong with preamp on A8

That FR does not present any deficiencies in high frequencies.

Yet, Amir's measurements show ruler flat frequency response with flawless treble extension, with both digital in and analog in:

If your unit really does aggressively roll off the treble, then this is a defect. Not the intended reponse.

I will send all measurements to Eversolo and will see what they say. I will add that I am now using A8 as a streamer and DAC with Rotel pream/amp combo and everything is fine. The issue only persist when I connect A8 directly to power amp and start to use it as preamp.

MarkD, have you checked the digital filter setting?
If slow or super slow roll off, you may experience what you’re seeing.

Eventually I've just purchased A6 ME Gen2.

Citation of MarkD on eversolo forum: I already spent lots of time for one of the ASR idiots here (https://forum.zidoo.tv/index.php?threads/a8-volume-issue.98233/page-9).

What motivates MarcD to join ASR?
Definitely not people like Purite Audio.he has started insulting on me as soon as I posted issue with A8. You must read a number of pages back and not to take out last post from the whole context. After all insults and suggestions that I have to read and educate myself , he posted this below. So he deserved what I said about him and he is from ASR forum. That is the story.

I just got the DMP-A8 5 days ago and I'm absolutely in love with this thing. The sound, the features, the fact that it's Roon Ready, all of it. And volume output is great by the way.
I'm just encountering two issues, maybe someone here knows what to do.
  1. I can't seem to trigger my two Audiophonics Purifi mono amps. I'm using a Y-cable from the DMP-A8 to trigger, but it just doens't do anything. Don't know if the issue is the DMP-A8 or the amps.
  2. I just installed a newly bought M2 SSD but the DMP-A8 doesn't detect it, so it doesn't even allow me to format it. On another forum someone suggested to format it first in another computer, but that would be a real bother for me ... anyone here encountered this issue ?
