Quite confused though: I use Qobuz on iOS and would like a peq or at least a premade headphone correction, toneboosters morphit seems to do it, but I can’t understand if it works with Qobuz or only music productions softwares. Similar thing for Housecurve, you have to pay for the eq, but I dont understand if I can use it with Qobuz and if is it parametric. Any experience in this regard or one of the other apps for iOS? Thanks.

I have only used and use Windows based parametric EQ software stuff for the desktop PC. So I have no experience with most of the EQ stuff that is compiled @ the EQ webpage.

I've used the Tonebooster Morphit plug-in in USB Audio Player Pro (UAPP) on Android phones, it works well. It looks like it works in a similar way on iOS. Apparently you need a AUv3-compatible host app to use the plug-in on iOS. Another alternative (a better one in my opinion) is get a Qudelix 5K and do the PEQ on that (the PEQ will then be applied whatever you connect the Q5K to, wired or wirelessly).

I believe Morphit on iOS is only available as an AUv3, and can only be used inside an app that can host AUv3 on iOS, such as Cuba's or GarageBand. I do not believe it can work directly with Qoboz, and as of now, iOS still does not allow any apps to control the main audio output of a device. Currently (and unfortunately), the only way to affect the overall audio output of an iOS device is to have some sort of DSP enabled on an additional piece of hardware, such as an external DAC/Amp.

I do believe the Vox Player app for iOS offers EQ and has the ability to link with Qoboz - It could be worth investigating:

I also use Qobuz (and Apple Music) on iOS and, unless the EQ feature is integrated in the app itself--Qobuz in that case-- there is no "system-wide" iOS solution as pointed by @KosherButcher :

It looks like Apple is going the path of integrating all the audio personalization onto their audio devices (AirPods...). So, I doubt it'll ever change...

Completely second the recommendation: a HW-based PEQ is the best solution for iOS, and the Q5K is one of the finest example!

Should RootlessJamesDSP be added to the Android section?

It is obviously related to JamesDSP but, as its name indicates, does not require rooting the Android device, an important difference. It does however, require Android 11+, and is a little geeky: it needs a companion app called Shizuku (also available on the PlayStore), and enabling some of the developer options. It works "system-wide" but some Android Apps are incompatible..

Like JamesDSP, it has (very!) powerful features. From the App description:

* Limiter control
* Output gain control
* Auto dynamic range compressor
* Dynamic bass boost
* Interpolating FIR equalizer
* Arbitrary response equalizer (Graphic EQ)
* ViPER-DDC
* Convolver
* Live-programmable DSP (scripting engine for audio effects)
* Analog modelling
* Soundstage wideness
* Crossfeed
* Virtual room effect (reverb)

To me, the Convolver (use case example: room virtualization, binaural impulses responses), Arbitrary EQ (direct processing of an error curve from, for example, Amir's measurements or AutoEQ), and LiveProg (an integrated EEL-2 scripting host) is an amazing combination of features...

I probably will buy a Bluesound Node playing Spotify. Is there an EQ android app in addition that I can use or is that impossible?

You might want to look into an iOS app called AUM, which is a host for AUv3 instruments and plugins. But it has built in effects, one of which is a parametric EQ plugin. AUM can host 10 plugins per chain, which gives you 10 EQ slots if you just use a single chain, but if you send the output of the chain to a mix bus, then use that mix bus as the input to the next chain, you can have quite a few EQ slots running at once.

Credit to @MachOne for discovering this one.

Yep thank you, I believe that also this one (that seems pretty fancy btw) is not going to work for our purpose. Maybe you can tweak it into doing it in some way, but my experience tells me that if you don’t use these apps for their intended purpose they are going to work bad resulting in crashes or sound deterioration or the phone warming up or who knows.. I bought a Fiio BTR7 and am very happy with its peq :) sure if I had a software one at home I’d use a Topping G5 or maybe even a desktop solution, but that’s just to be dandy and have the best possible, not to address an issue. I listen very well now with BTR7, I wouldn’t be surprised if upgrading would result in inaudible improvement. In fact I don’t even know how can sound get any better than this, to my ear it seems flawless..

for android there is an EQ (& fx) app called RootlessJamesDSP. it has bass boost, eq, limiter, crossfeed, analog modelling, etc. i don't usually use it but it has a lot of features that y'all might like.
Thank you very much for the contribution. I added it under the Android heading. :D

Thank you. I added the link to EQ for Windows.

I used Eq Mac before I bought my RME ADI-2 and the difference in performance was clear, software EQ is bad, at least if you use Mac.

What is referred as hardware EQ—as opposed to software—is usually a specialized chip (DSP) running specialized… software (digital). There are certainly bad/worse implementations, but I don’t think software EQ is inherently bad.
