WiiM Ultra

Out of the box, the WiiM Ultra would not improve sound quality over your current setup.

However, if you make use of some of the Ultra's features like room correction or subwoofer integration, then you can certainly achieve higher quality sound.
Wondering if I go for an Eversolo A8, to obtain some dramatic improvement? My 69 birthday day present!

This. Is a great and lovely device, but for example in my case there is no need for it.
In my living room I have a TV connected to a MiniPC (before a laptop) and I use that for everyting. I mean, browsing in the net, listening or check youtube, mails, and also listening music and watching movies. I don't even use smart features from the TV since I prefer doing it through the computer with a wireless mouse and keyboard.
So I have the computer through a DAC through an amplifier to my speakers and is the center of everything I do when I want to relax or do stuff.
Remote control? No problem, I turn off the TV, the computer is always on 24/7, Tidal and spotify always open, I just open the apps from my phone and control from there. I can easily from other room select track, start, stop, or do whatever I want.
And the mini PC I have bought was cheaper than a Wiim device.

Again... context is everything, probably in a world where my living room won't have a TV, or TV will be in another place, and I just want to stream music, Wiim ultra will be my choice for sure.
Some day (When I dream) I would have in my living room my speakers just for music and a special room for home cinema with another kind of speakers and a projector probably, but meanwhile, the miniPC does everything I want.
When people chime in just to say they don't need it.

The subwoofer out has a 0 or 180 degree switch. I have not tried it on the WiiM, but on other systems where I have used it, it has not worked very well. But, it is there to experiment with.

There is Room Correction in the Ultra. I have not used it, but it may be worth a try.

Also, there is a Sync Audio function for syncing the speakers. You may want to investigate that.
I've used it and I can hear the difference, my sub is not pointing towards me, so instead of choosing 0 (speaker pushing air forward) I am using the 180 (speaker pushing air to the rear) To my ears the bass is more controlled and tighter. It's insane how this little unit has so many functionalities.

My work colleague bought a wiim ultra with full expectations, and his first impressions brought him disappointment. He already has a wiim pro plus like me and he also has a bluesound node. Before that, he was very excited about the wiim pro plus, but now with the wiim ultra, he says that bluesound sounds better with his kind of settings.

Bluesound was on my want list for a long time, I'm waiting for Darko Audio to release a first impressions vid on the Ultra and maybe a Vs video here soon. And a first review posted on Head-Fi----> https://www.head-fi.org/showcase/wiim-ultra.27286/reviews#review-35060

Has anyone seen the plans for Dirac on Bluesound products?
Long time Bluesound user but have the Pro Plus I enjoy

As a Node 130 owner I've been looking for updates on this -- now the only evidence so far is the intro of the NAD C700 V.2 that has Dirac as the V.1 unit didn't...

Otherwise total radio silence from Bluesound, NAD, and Lenbrook about ANY Bluesound branded products being updated or even replaced (Node N140?) with the Dirac capability...

This really sounds like Lenbrook floating some PR BS to get potential streamer buyers to keep considering a Node 3, Node X, or Powernode 3 instead of jumping ship over to Wiim with their Room Correction feature -- Wiim is likely causing many sleepless nights @ Lenbrook HQ -- it seems that only NAD branded products with sufficient processing horsepower (like the C700 V.2) will get Dirac...

Hope I'm wrong -- I'd love to get an update for my Node 130 to add Dirac (prob would need one of the NAD USB Dongle interface + mic kits to make it work)

I'm a fan of WiiM. Have been using the Wiim Mini and WiiM Pro. So I have been waiting with anticipation for the Ultra but so far what I have seen and heard has been disappointing.

On top of what I expect to be the great streaming and DAC performance, I really appreciated the other functionalities like the LCD screen, subwoofer out/management. Not to mention, EQ/PEQ and DSP. For me, the Ultra is unbeatable value for money for overall performance and functionality and aesthetics. I can't find anything close to this even for twice or 3 times the price.

However no Airplay is a showstopper for me even though I will be using it 80% of the time with TIDAL or Spotify. I am even considering pairing a Wiim Pro with Wiim Ultra simply for the LCD and subwoofer out features of the Ultra. Seems to be still good value vs other alternatives.

What do you all think? Does anyone here have any other issues using the Ultra so far? Do you think WiiM will be likely to put in Airplay into the Ultra at some point?

Why use Airplay for Tidal or Spotify? They both have connect options from their own apps.

Airplay for when I want to cast Youtube or some other non music streaming service.
I'm streaming YouTube Music to the Ultra as I'm writing this. It has a built in Chromecast.

I expect to use it as a source for a Sonos Port. If Sonos sound quality isn’t enough, then Roon looks like the step up.

As far as I can tell, those are the only good multi-room options.

Airplay currently only allow casting from Apple devices.

The solution is simple. You can use your Mini for Airplay. Connect its optical out to the Ultra for all the other functionality you mention.

Job’s a good ‘un.

Yup thanks. Just wanted some affirmation that this is the simplest fuss free option. I think I'll do this most likely.
