Hello lovely people.

Im looking to extend my system further and I dont know which subwoofer pairing is better for (a pair of) 8361a’s?
2x7370a or a single 7380a? the w371 is on my wishlist but not in the budget unfortunately..

How important is to match subs spl with mains?even if i dont ever reach their max spl capabilities? And if i want to use the 7370 as an extension of both mains (not summed in mono) they wont add up in spl- will they lack in that scenario? what are the benefits of that setup vs 2 subs summed to mono and which is better? (vs single 7380 aswell).

Lastly will the double subwoofer reduce LF decay time?
Grateful for as much info you can provide.

Thank you!!!

I bought myself a single 7370 APM a few years back, to combine with my existing pair of 8351Bs, simply because that is the ‘level match’ solution that Genelec recommends (I contacted the company beforehand). The combination works really great, leaves nothing to be desired for me, but the reality is that I would also have been fine with a single 7360 APM, which is both smaller and cheaper. It’s hard to imagine that that alternative would have caused any problem at all in my situation. So why not consider starting with a single 7370 and decide if that's good enough for you? That way, you can always add a second 7370 for whatever reason (I certainly won’t)?

I would go with two smaller subs rather than one bigger. I had similar dilemma some time ago, just a notch smaller. So 8351 and either one 7370 or two 7360. Went with two smaller ones, as from 7360 and up they all are full range and extend below 20Hz anyway, so you just get more volume going up. The bigger problem with 7380 is that it already cost basically 1/3rd of a pair of W371A, which I ended up with, replacing two 7360s. This is really an upgrade, with no problems with integration or any hint of a "subwoofer" sound and in true stereo. They're ugly in any other colour than white though, I can admit that lol.
Unfortunately I don't think neither can lower the decay in the bass

Your monitors already have the equivalent of a 10" woofer build in. Two 12" subs sure should be fine, but a 15" will put out the same SPL with more grace. Even as they might get just as low on paper.
I will always go for the largest sub I can fit into room and budget. With subs nothing beats inches, except for more inches.

I asked a similar question looking for a sub which matches my K&H O300D. They are similar in max SPL to the Genelec 8050 where Genelecs recommendation is the 7070. The Genelec support said that the 7060 would be OK if I don't play at max SPL (what I don't do). So I bought a 7060b and am very satisfied with it.

Nowadays I would go for multiple KH750 because then proper placement of the subs can give better bass over a wider listening area.

BTW: whatever you buy don't forget to buy a Umik 1 for easier setup.
