A subwoofer with my Genelec 8361A ?

What about this:
Yeah but what about the overcharge of the speakers ? If I already boost the bass with the GLM sound profiler, plus the bass boost 10 dB in the loudness plus the bass boost on the EQ ? I mean it clearly means I need a sub no ? Additionaly, such boost bass here and there will mabye damage the speakers themselves I guess no ?

You don't need to worry about it for at least three reasons: first, the RME adjusts its output when you add bass, so it will not exceed the maximum level; second, your speakers are capable of SPLs that will become very uncomfortable to you well before they will overload; and finally, should the speakers be overloaded, their built-in limiter will kick in and protect them from any possible damage. And if you feed them with digital signal, then it will be impossible to overload them in the first place.

Well it seems to be what I need to do. Here is the story : I just try connecting the Klipsch R 120 SW (one from my father), and we discovered that the bass were too much boomy even when player with the crossover and the gain, whether you have some bass whether its boomy. Therefore, it seems that a 12" sub is too much for my room, especially that most of it is made of wood, it is a dangerous room for the bass ! So I'll try additioning RME EQ + Loudness + EQ + Sound profiler and see how can I tweak according to my taste.

Well, I succeed thanks to your advice, I added the EQ on bass, bass on the Sound profiler in the GLM and the Loudness, now I can enjoy the powerful bass of the Genelec even at lower volume without sounding boomy or loosing clarity ! Thanks to all of you, one lesson I learnt is that : we should always exploit our gear at its most before thinking about buying something else !

And trust the expertise on ASR!

You see now, all you needed was just a little bit of tweaking ;) Glad you have this sorted out now, so enjoy your gear!

By the way, in his review of the 8361A, Amir, too, notes that the speaker sounded best with a slight bass shelving EQ, and it is indeed a bit light with bass out of the box (as his measurements show).

Hello everyone,

I hope you are doing well and that I'm in the right place on this forum for such a thread. It's my first time posting on this forum that I'm sometimes looking at for precious advice or to look at all the knowledge covered here, it's quite amazing !

Anyway my question today is rather basic : I'm a proud owner of a pair of Genelec 8361A speakers. I'm satisfied with the sounds its exceptional, however I feel that it could benefit from a subwoofer to support their bass, especially at lower volume. Currently I've sent the GLM curve on the bass frequency definitely higher than what the computer calculated for my room otherwise it loose all the bass because it flatten the response!
My room is maybe around 30m2. What good options could be among the range of subfoower offered my Genelec ? I know people use mostly the 7380 sub with these speakers but its a little bit expensive and maybe overkill ?
For reference, I've put the frequences chart attached for both speakers. Lets me know what you think !

Thanks in advance for your help.
Regards
Berdri
I have similar graphs like you and also was not sure about the sub, but i bough one and not regret it. Its not only about the quantity of the bass ... i found the bass form the sub is just better - once because is a sub and second because is on the floor, where the low frequencies bellow. Its just sounds different and more natural and fuller then from the speakers.

If you have more free space with separate sub you can find far better position for those lows to compensate better the room. The main speakers should be in place for good stereo, but the bass is another challenge.
