Genelec 8361a vs 8351b

What will that optimal closeness be in your opinion? and do the 8361s allow for much greater listening distances? I saw the genelec graphs but im purely after experiences of users.

Hello all! Thanks for your help. Im getting the 8361a’s delivered tomorrow (i will use them in a bigger room mid field).
Now i have another question: I currently have uad apollo twin mk2 which only has analog outs. I think going digital is the way. Can someone please recommend me some usb to aes solutions? I think going for the Genelecs 9320a is a good way to go since genelec atleast in my eyes knows whats best for their monitors. But i cant find any good reviews about it and even if the added benefits of their controller are nice i dont want to be sacrificing audio quality for them.

Are you going to use GLM either through the 9320a or the basic GLM management system?

There is only a optimal listening "window" from 75 cm to 2,9m distance and no specific optimal distance. This graph also only applies to studio use.

It can also be used to connect other digital or analog devices though I see you aren't interested in those uses. My question was more in the line if you aren't going to get the 9320a are you at least getting the GLM calibration system so you can load EQ to the speakers.

For now im just about audio quality, but as it seems like a good option for that too i can see getting it in the future. I am of course getting the GLM kit with the speakers- it was one of the selling points for me. on second thought- I could return the kit and buy the controller and avoid losing its price..

If your computer is your only source I don't see the need for the 9320a in your case. The 9320a controller not only does measurements and calibration, for lack of a better term is like a preamp in a home setting. It has analog in and out , headphone jack, digital in and out and volume control. Once your GLM calibration is made and loaded you can use it without a computer. It can be powered from a wall wart through usb- c and used with a streamer, cd player, DVD player, turn table as long as you have a phono preamp.

I can have just the 9320a between computer and my speakers right? i dont need anything else?

One more question. I can't find any info about the bit rate and sample rate of the 9320a. On Genelecs site it says audio bandwidth is 48 kHz. It can't do 24 bit 192khz?

This is what is written in the manual:
4.1 Reference Controller Signal Processing
The system frequency response of 9320 extends from 0.2 Hz (-3 dB) and up to 45 kHz (-3 dB) on all
outputs for complete delivery of the full recorded audio content. The AES digital audio input accepts a
samples rate range 32–192 kHz and word lengths up to 24 bits. The highest USB audio interface sample
rate is 192 kHz.

You dont need any other box in the middle, unless you have other sources that can not go through computer, or you have aversions to software volume control

If you only use a computer you can use an usb to aes converter.
The 9320a is an interface providing extra inputs, headphone amp. It works in "stand alone" mode when you use the digital or analogue input. And you have physical volume control.

with what I gathered with your help here- I don't need the 9320. I just wasn't sure if the usb to aes converter will impact the sound quality..
