Good Morning. After several years I would like to change a my Electrocompaniet ECI 2 amplifier.I would like something with more dinamics. The speaker are home-built with Seas and Skan Speak components with an impedance of 3 ohm at 20 hz,up to 4 ohm at 20khz.What do I think do you recommend? Thanks

Can you nail down some requirements? Integrated or power? Inputs? Balanced?

To meet and exceed the ECI 2 amplifier you will need something with some pretty serious power output. A power amp perhaps in a class D high power output. It will go slightly louder, have more power for bass enhancements and loudness control if you like to use one and for EQing. What is your price range to begin with seeing if you want a class D amp or not?

O' and are you using equalization right now?

Amplifiers are linear. They don't change/effect dynamics unless you over-drive the amp into clipping (distortion).

Clipping is VERY BAD kind of dynamic compression or limiting. ;)

"Dynamic range" is generally defined as the range/difference between the noise floor and maximum power (before clipping). So an amplifier with the same noise level and more power has more dynamic range capability.

Musical dynamics (AKA "dynamic contrast") are also often called "dynamic range". It's a characteristic of the recording/production related to the range between quiet & loud parts.

Is this really a Class A?! 50W per channel?
In an integrated chassis, and which would also compress the dynamics??

His amplifier has rather low output figures so its not going to be hard to get something like a 6 dB increase in output. Which is quite significant.

I hesitated to say significant because sometimes people expect wayyy louder because the power output is 4x or 6x the output. But yeah it will go louder and have more power for transients and PEQ boosting.
