KEF LS60 and WiiM Ultra?

Its like asking if IOS is better than Android. For some yes, for others no.
Well that's kinda my point... the line I quoted was " For sure the wiiim the best non Roon streamer, but that tells you everything."

And I wanted to know if there was a good reason for objectively declaring this.

Seams to a rather unbalanced budget. Rather like buying a brand new car then using a coat hanger as an aerial.
More like a smart focus on where the $ is best spent. If the coat hanger had identical signal as the fancy antenna, then the antenna is strictly for cosmetics and bragging rights. Nothing wrong with that as long as you don't pretend the fancy antenna improves the audio. I personally will purchase for audio, and build quality, looks, etc. It's all part of the experience.

Imo there is no best streamer pick what’s suits your use case and needs :)

There be candidates for worst streamers, but I would not really know possible your 10 yo old smart tv who uses DLNA :)
But even then the sound quality migth not be the issues(s)

But among the good ones ? They are just different , just try .

Raspberry PI can be built for many streaming services and apps, so they may be one of the best hardware platforms cheap versatile and good support via enthusiast forums .
You can even have ROON endpoints with ROOPIE ? If the project is still active.

I think a Wiim Ultra + LS60 + a capable sub is probably as good as you're gonna get before you start to get into rapidly diminishing returns.

Yes.

I have this:

WiiM Ultra --> Raspberry Pi w/ CamillaDSP --> MCHStreamer Kit --> LS60
Can you set LS60 in preamp mode or how do you set the volume on the LS60 when used with the Ultra?

I prefer the opposite i use the WiiM in fixed volume but reduced to accommodate my PEQ ( I boost some and need to make headroom ) then i simply uses the LS60 remote and control the speakers volume .

However a quirk of the WiiM's squeezelite implementation is that it does not care that the LMS server has the player as fixed volume, it can be changed anyway with the LMS app's even if the WiiM volume is disabled

Understand but my plan is to use the subwoofer out from the Ultra, I need to use PEQ on the subwoofer so I need to control the volume from the Ultra, is that possible?

Yes. Volume on the Ultra can be controlled with the front volume knob, the remote control, or via the WiiM Home app.

I use the PEQ in the WiiM for my Subs but have the sub xover in the LS60 sending audio to each sub, this also works fine :) so my sub's are connected to each LS60

WiiM just thinks its a full range speaker , I just add the necessary PEQ corrections in my EQ presets .

Hence why i manage with the Pro+

For the people on this thread who are lukewarm on Roon, I would just add this observation: My wife could not give 2 F's about Roon, yet she listens to music very often (she's all Spotify all the time). Whereas I love Roon, used for my large local library + Qobuz. For me, it's the greatest, having opened up hours and hours of listening and going down rabbit holes reading about artists, finding new artists, exploring old ones.

So to each their own.

@Open Mind Audio You seam to use Roon with Qobuz and have the same experience. Roon has introduced me to many new composers. Makes you wonder why the likes of Qobuz don’t take note of Roons algorithms.

Btw the WiiM ultra is even a bit overkill :) as you only using the digital out and not it’s improved DAC’s
With my previous Meridian system I used a Raspberry PI as streamer with a digital out board worked perfectly no SQ issues ofcourse.
camiiladsp-setrate did not work for me using the WiiM Pro Plus SPDIF output to my Raspberry Pi. It works with USB, though, which is why I switched to the Ultra.

There is a compilation tag can be used , I don’t have that problem with LMS ?
Good to know. Thank you!

I was not aware of the tag when I ripped my CDs around 2 years ago. If I get any more CDs with different artists on different songs, I'll try to use the tag.

How come you don't go directly from the Pi with USB to the LS60?

I would if I could. The KEF LS60 manual and the back of the speaker itself both indicate that the USB port is for "service". Also, the KEF Connect app does not have a USB input option.

EDIT: Here is a screen shot of the available inputs:

Ah I see. I assumed they would have the same input as the LSX II. I see now that the LSX II are the only ones with USB-C input. LS50 appears to not have USB-C either.

Just messing around with my LSX II right now as the thread got me curious, but this is not going to help you then.

The Pi finds the LSX II just fine, but they don't wake up from sleep well (have to click apply in CamillaDSP after the LSX II wakes up). One workaround I found is changing source in the shortcut tab, so a workaround could be using a FLIRC/remote and just have a dummy profile to switch between to get them going with a button push, if not wanting to go into the interface every time.

Now I need to build a Pi for my LSX II as well. :D

So, if you spend a million on a house, what's the minimum price for a tap that will work as well as any other tap? You have a spurious argument.
Forget the taps. If you spent $1 mil on the house you should budget at least $250k for the wiring/ cables.
