KEF LS60 and WiiM Ultra?

Wiim has eq and there are phone apps to acoustically measure, but REW is the best.
Can’t the dealer you bought the LS60s from help?

(I'm in Greater Manchester.)

I'm listening to my own files ripped from CD, and vinyl on a decent Technics. Always sounded great on my last system.

Due to failing health, I switched to the KEFs to get rid of all the boxes I had - don't want my wife to have to deal with all that - and switch to streaming from vinyl (I'm selling my records off). So I'd basically be left with just a pair of speakers and my phone. That was the plan.

I really don't have energy (physical and mental) to be doing all the scientific analysis with a laptop. I just want to be able to switch on and listen to sounds that please my ears! I'm not getting that from the KEFs at the moment: an annoying bass thump and ear fatigue. Maybe there is yet more messing I could do in their connect app. I think I've been tying myself in knots continually moving sliders and turning "wall mode" and "phase correction" and the like (what even are these things) on and off. I really wish they had just an old fashioned equalizer so I could adjust to taste, even if it's not a technically accurate measurement. Maybe I'm not used to a neutral sound!

I did have my REL sub hooked up but gave up because it just made things yet more complicated. thought I'd try to get the speakers themselves singing before getting that dialled in.

Anyway apologies for the little rant! Not really sure which way to turn now. Is there anything I could do (some kind of app or something) that would at least let me stream to my speakers and give me a chance to play with EQ to see if that would help? (I rather wish I had kept hold of my little Wiim mini to let me experiment with that.)
Get a Wiim device and play around with the EQ and Room correction and I'm sure you'll be able to tailor the sound to your liking.
Yes, measuring with REW is the best approach, but it does take some effort (especially if you're a novice like me!), but if you get a sound you like just adjusting by ear, it doesn't really matter how it measures.

Thank for the replies. Even if I did measure with REW, I still have to actually fix the issues don't I? Id still need something to allow me to apply EQ to my taste? (Which it sems I can't do within the KEF app.)

Wiim is probably the best option for that, playback software such as Roon and JRiver also have eq built in.

A WiiM Ultra and miniDSP UMIK-1 will give you the ability to integrate your subwoofer and measure and correct your system using just your phone or tablet, albeit not as precise and to the point as with REW running on a computer.

Is the Ultra’s correction reliable I saw some results the other day where a +10Db low bass correction was proposed.

It still needs some work.

Alternatively, one can measure using the HouseCurve App, then develop the EQ in HouseCurve, https://autoeq.app/, or https://squig.link/, then copy the PEQ values into the WiiM Home App.

I recently got a pair of LS60 speakers and I’m struggling to love them. I find my ears get a little tired after half an hour or so and there is a bump in the bass which irritates me. I gave up trying to integrate my REL sub.

Why KEF can’t just give access to simple EQ/ tone controls I don’t know rather than things like “wall mode”. I keep experimenting with no joy.

So my simple question is: has anyone here who has got the LS60 and Wiim ultra got the results they want and would the Wiim possibly help me?
WiiM have all the extensive EQ the KEF lacks ?

If one was using something like a Wiim Ultra / Pro streamer with the LS60, in order to assist with equalisation, how would you "bypass" all the equalisation stuff that's going on in the LS60 itself?

Don't you just end up with two devices and apps you need to configure?

I really hope KEF takes ideas from your comments, because reading the thread, the LS series should provide the software functionalities of the WiiM from the start.

Morover, perhaps there is a chance for further expansion considering Dirac is now making chips to include on hardware.

Seems quite simple to bypass the EQ/boundary correction on the LS60, then just play with the PEQ/GEQ or run the room correction on the Wiim device.

Sorry, I'm unfamiliar with the WiiM, how does the UMIK-1 integrate?
Plug the UMIK-1 into your phone or tablet.

Use the WiiM Home App for automated, but rudimentary PEQ correction, or the HouseCurve App for more manual, precise response measurements and PEQ design, which you then copy into the WiiM Home App.

I'm old so i use my Umik with Rew on my computer :) Rew can then be used for peq filter design , i plug those manually into my WiiM

That would be the preferred method, unfortunately @keiron99 does not have access to a laptop, so mobile devices will have to suffice.

I use a very long USB cable and a powered USB hub ,from my desktop computer :) I should get a personal laptop.. I have a laptop at work , but i rarely install personal programs on it .

I actually have a WiiM mini hooked up to my LS60s and it's fine and dandy.
Are you powering the mini directly from the LS60s? And, which input are you using for the KEF? I'm considering the LS60s, but have an odd layout and want to absolutely minimize cabling.

The Mini has two outputs. Analog or digital via optical. You need 5v to power the Mini (comes with it) you aren’t powering the Mini from the LS60’s.

Best option is to use the optical cable to feed the speakers.
