Doesn't Shure specify 400-500pF loading capacitance for all the V-15 models? I see this also one was set at about 95pF.
Pick your poison:

Makes me more happy with my SAS for V15IV, I got my V15 V 6474 Tonar
hyperelliptical yesterday, measurers to tomorrov….maybe
Anyway the SAS V15 V will fit old folk like me, but glad I did not buy a SAS,thanks @dalllaloiuythnbb

If I remember correctly recommended loading was quite different between models.

IIRC, all the V15V SAS are a miss. At some point I'll have to measure mine - I have B/Z/S/R versions. I think different loading may help you, though. @Thomas_A and I remembering right that you've tamed the B?
That was with the V15Vx. Seems that the III and IV models are the best with JICO SAS/B. The V15V I’ve seen are peaky with SAS/B unless loaded extreme.

BTW got a new SAS/B yesterday. Sounds fine and will measure it eventually. The rest of the SAS family with exotic cantilevers are just waste of money.

Would be great to see other replacement stylii measurments for V15 V.
Maybe Tonar Shibata is actually better performer than Jico SAS?

Could be. I went for the JICO SAS/B for the V15Vx since I am happy with that. Pretty low distortiion and good HF clarity when new. Prefer it over Ortofon OM40. And I like the brush damper after modification with silicon oil

It will be a long winter. :)

Oh, I don't know. MCs are quick to measure as loading does't matter, and 5 of those are already mounted :)

Right so, but I guess there is a lot more in your storage. :)

The tonar will be interesting especially if distortion can match the SAS. Your SAS/B is the only one I’ve seen with slight drooping HF. The III/IV I’ve seen are typically quite linear or just a minor HF peak with the SAS/B. The V is quite different as yet different is the Vx. I remember the VxMR stylus being 2-3 dB down 10-20 kHz when loaded 140 pF. 250 pF lifted that a bit but not enough. If you have any opportunity try R=60 kOhm with your SAS/B.

  • Cartridge: Shure V15 type V Tonar 6475HE hyperelliptical replacement made in in Japan
  • Stylus condition: Tonar 6475HE hyperelliptical replacement made in in Japan 5 minutes
  • Test record: ClearAudio TRS-1007 side A track 1&2 L/R stereo
  • Turntable and arm: Sony SP-212 from junk sale,30USD but speed is correct Peak wow 0.11%
  • Tracking force: 1.5g Brush down, anstiskate 1.25
  • Phono stage and loading settings: Parks Audio Puffin 47k 50pF. Toslink-USB converter
    • Capacitance and impedance: 50pF fixed + 125pF cables=175pF, 47k ohm
  • Cable capacitance
    • 125pF cables
  • Recording: no adjustment on balance, no Azimuth adjustment on cartridge, 16 bit 96Hz.Recording characteristic E500R0 (EQ for CA TRS-1007 (no treble emphasis).
Comments: rather high distortion above 5k, peakong like som ortofhones. But Ortofon 2MBlue posted here seems a better choice overall. Som aother day I can play with loading

SRA=86° ?
A heavy aluminum cantilever (0.5?-0.7? mm in diameter) creates a strong resonance at 20 kHz, a mountain appears with a distortion peak at 10 kHz.

SRA still tilted wrong. Needs lower VTF? Good fr response but distortion on the high side.

Thanks , I got 85.7 SRA. So this is also going back, where on earth can a a proper replacement stylus for V15 IV or V ? I have a SAS already. Maybe I should go for a Ortofon OM replacement stylus instead?

I don’t think there is one third party with good compliance with the original. The best ones I’ve seen measurements of are the SAS/B for the III/IV/Vx. The V is another story. You have live with that you need some loading corrections. If you can add ≈12k-15k in series with your SAS/B you should lift the high end to linear response. Regarding the OM, I would not go there. Too high distortion. If you decide to do the OM30 is the best.

Agree OM has high distortion, I probably should forget vintage stuff and replacement styluses, and get a ATVM540ML, or ?

AT-440Mla

I made a comparison of the frequency response, the same cartridge, at different suspension stiffness settings.
Vertical Tracking Force 1.4g = Tracking ability 70mkm VS Vertical Tracking Force 1.2g = Tracking ability 100mkm
AT-440Mla (11.02.2024) (306 min) (1.4g) CA-TRS1007 (---.-) (Side B1) (1).png
AT-440Mla (13.02.2024) (351 min) (1.2g) CA-TRS1007 (1.2g=100mkm) (Side B1) (1a).png
