@VintageFlanker any idea what would be an aproximate shipping price for these to eastern europe? The pair weighs 60kg. Do you think it would cost over €500?

Quad ESL 57 Musikwiedergabe
I see a pair of these wonderful speakers for sale in The Netherlands at the reasonable price of €2465.
They were, according to the seller, restomodded in 2017 by Musikwiedergabe in Germany who bought the original jigs for this model from the factory and have improved its construction considerably.
If only I had the space….

My current speakers are the more modern and I think rather better Quad 2805s, but I still have a pair of esl 57s that I bought in 1977. They are still in good original condition, and were used again two years ago when the 2805s needed repairs. Even though I prefer the modern ones, the sound quality of the originals was still remarkable and something I could happily live with. Space is a problem for me too, so I should sell them when I have time. The same applies to the fm3/Q33/303 electronics that I have lying around.

Oh I know, but in the US we get the Arias on sale around the same time. The 948s are MSRP $6400 USD, so for $3000, it's a steal for us. Btw, since I have your attention, which dac would you pair with the 948s? I was thinking the new Akm dacs but I fear the sound maybe too warm.

Decent dacs are not audible, they are not warm or bright or anything. Pick a good one and be happy

Are you sure? Most people will swear they hear a difference between ESS/AKM, etc.
