I don't want to nitpick, but bamboo is not tropical and is not a wood. It's a grass and it has a huge climate range. When used in flooring it has a hardness comparable to oak and other hardwoods. Unfortunately, some of the glues that have been used in laminating bamboo products are toxic (primarily, apparently, they can give off formaldehyde, which is also present in other engineered wood products, such as MDF, but possibly other chemicals are used during their manufacture?). We had bamboo flooring in our old house and it was both beautiful and very rugged, although we purchased it from a relatively premium manufacturer that no longer sells the same product. As a speaker veneer choice, though, there are so many prettier wood products.Tropical woods like bamboo are often billed as being more sustainable than other woods. I know they grow much faster, but any tree once cut down can be grown again. I suppose the faster it grows the more carbon is sucked out of the atmosphere. My bedroom furniture is made from Mango IIRC. The bamboo cabinet is definitely more attractive than MDF. Paint, which is what KEF and Wilson use, is a nice option as well. Exotic veneers add a lot of cost and do nothing for the sound.
PS I have yet to see a formal review of the Ascend Sierra LX although there are many positive owner comments.
