AIYIMA D03 class D amplifier "Subjective review"

@Marcorelle At this point I would make a test where your source is not your PC but for example your phone with Bluetooth. Because it's much more likey that you PC acting up, instead of the DAC just randomly dropping input.

Hi Toku

thank u very much for your answer.
I use original power supply from the box of the D03 (36V).
I understand , but like I said , I can play various songs (music , movie , video games) during hours without any problem but sometimes the sound is cut for one second.
and it s weird !
today : I play music and video games without problem , no cut !!!! yesterday : same music , same videogames and I have the cut for one second few times during the day !
Is the input mode PC and USB connection?

@Toku : indeed , input mode PC and USB connection.
@sound : before the D03, I had a SMSL AD18 and I ve never had this behaviour , so it would be surprising if the problem came from the PC
I tested with BT , and the problem is the same (but like the USB PC connection , it s completely random )

this morning , a friend lent me a SMSL A300 till sunday , I am currently testing it (great amp , very surprised !)
same connection : USB TO PC , I ll try same games , same music etcc..
and I ll see if I have the same problem (but as I said , I had no problem with AD18)

Hi guys , some news today after 2 days with the SMSL A300 : absolutely no problem , no audio cut during hours of playing (gaming , music , movie etc etc..)
But a little bit disapointed by the DAC of this SMSL A300 , it is not very good (only 16bits/44khz insteand of 24 bits/192 Khz with the D03).

The A300's digital inputs operate using the BT module's DAC functionality. Therefore, the performance is inferior to products equipped with a DAC chip. Well, please use it as a bonus function.

@Toku : thank u very much for this information , I didnt know that. As I said , a gentle friend lent me his A300 to test on my system ;)
this morning , I reconnect my D03 : no cut in sound after 2 hours of music but the problem doesn't happen often (I like this little D03 despite this weird problem )

Same problem here too both on USB (Daphile notebook) and optical (TV).
No display disappearing though.
D03 "works" 5-6 hours/day (in weekends double that) both on USB and TV and it happens very rare. And I mean VERY rare. But it happens.

Anyway, I can live with that. :)

@burebista : thanks for your sharing ;)
same for me , in fact I can live with that , this amp is very very good for the price and fortunately the problem doesn't happen all the time

Hi guys.

I have this amp and trying to play with subwoofer.

What input I should use?

LFE or the other where I can tune the crossover?

Tks

Hello everyone and thank you for this thread.

Is there any benefit (or risk) in adding an A2 DAC between the source (PC/UBC) and the D03 ?

Thank You

I think your question is about the effect of connecting the A2 DAC to the RCA analog input of the D03.
To put it simply, doing so will destroy all the good things about the D03. The D03 is a fully digital amplifier. It drives the speakers directly from digital audio signals. Therefore, it is not possible to input analog signals. However, for convenience, a simple ADC has been added so that analog signals can be converted to digital and input. However, the quality of the ADC is low and the sound quality is not good. Please understand that this is merely an added feature.

Thank you very much Toku for answering my question so quickly.
Your explanation is clear and understood, thank you.

Hi guys,
as many others I am facing issues with D03. I use it mostly as my 2.1 setup attached to my old Samsung TV (55C6000) via optical output.
Issues: sometime sound disappears between cartoons series, usually when next serie starts (cartoon downloaded to NAS), as for the music I do not use it often like this so can't confirm if there any dropouts. I tried to search information about the issue and came across this post from JDS Labs (link). Possibly the same issue we have on D03. As I am not expecting Aiyma will release any solution and RCA connection is not an option, tried to overcome this in other way.
Long story short I found this on Aliexpress - Toslink <=> Coaxial bi-directional audio converter (5$+).
Is it bit prefect conversion ? Don't know - photo disassembled device from some review I am attaching here (somebody could say more by the scheme). Subjectively there is no difference in sound. So basically now I am attaching TV to this box (and also powering it from TV using included USB-microUSB cable) to convert optical to coax (digital) and use coax input on D03.
2 days passed by with this box, so far no issues. So for the 5$ you can give try if it solve your issue too, at least for optical connection.
Will be glad to hear some comments on this. Thanks.

I'm giving you a like for the cool graphic. How did you do that?

This is my first venture into Class D & Digital amplifiers. I've been reading reviews of many models & I'm impressed with the Aiyima D03. The cost from the Aiyima Store at Aliexpress is half the Amazon price, anyone know the reason why?

This will be my first time using Aliexpress, the only downside appears to be returns if faulty?
Thanks in advance!

The cheaper price compared to, say, Amazon, is due to:

the speed of delivery;
potential for damage when shipping from China to your country (assuming your not in China);
the major inconvenience of trying to return the item should there be a problem;
lower overhead (in this case, no middleman) of a seller in China than a reseller in a developed country (think Amazon).

I’ve been buying from ALIEXPRESS for ~ 10 years - and I know I’ll get flamed for saying this- but I find their customer satisfaction guarantee to be a joke: “…send a photo proving the item wasn’t delivered, removed from package…” etc.

On several occasions I’ve had to resort to PayPal to intervene and get my money back.

I've purchased dozens of trinkets from ALIEXPRESS with no issues but it seems with larger, more fragile items, the packaging has often looked like it’s survived a bloody, rugby match.

As my economics professor taught me many years ago; caveat emptor.

Thanks for the warnings. Damage in shipping would be my biggest concern.
Lower prices on Aliexpress are not true of other brands (Topping, Loxjie) so I wondered what was special about the D03? I havn't checked the Aiyima Store in general.
Is paying by PayPal safer than a major credit card?
