WiiM Ultra

Something must be off in your setup. I get plenty of power for the HD650, HD800S and also Arya Stealth. Never need to go over half volume for more than enough loudness.

Good clear sound. I don't see any need for a separate headphone amp.
Same experience here. I am pleasantly surprised with the amp, didn't expect much. I run my 650s at volume level 9-12 (out of 100). Power is fine.

I've submitted a ticket to Wiim for this, but one thing the Ultra needs is a setting for the volume step with the remote. Currently the remote increases or decreases by 4 (I think).

The issue I have with that is I am using the Wiim Ultra as a preamp/dac/streamer going into V3 Monos driving Klipsch Heresy IVs. Using the remote, one step up can go from slightly too low to "Wow, that's too loud".

Previously I was using an Eversolo DMP-A6 and it had an option to set the volume step rate to 1 which was perfect.

Adjust the ultras max Vrms down by half and you'll have more control.

Can’t you use the volume limit as a multiplier to impact that?

Adjust the ultras max Vrms down by half and you'll have more control.

That will probably help, but the volume control still needs to be more precise. I don't think relatively large changes are ever a good idea.

Wiim responded to my message and said they will look into adding the option in an update.

Yeah it's not a bad feature to request.

Those are highly sensitive speakers too 99db!.

Yes. Too easy to go from too quiet to too loud.
Your use case is surely a rather extreme one. ;) I hope you have set the V3 Monos to 25 dB gain.

However, this point has actually been criticized from the beta stage on. WiiM didn't listen.

Ironically, third party apps like e.g. Tidal using Tidal Connect can set the volume in increments of 1%. At least some TVs can do it as well through HDMI CEC. It's just the WiiM Home App and the hardware remote that are limited to 3% steps.

The volume dial on the front works well. It does not have the issue.

I forgot to change them to 25db. That helped. Good catch.

Playing around with room correction with my Ultra. Has anyone else found more success by limiting correction to 500 Hz or so. I found running correction more 'full range' I got an unnatural or veiled effect that I did not like at all.
In a small room, with bookies and a sub I was able to tighten up bass response and after I did a little manual moving around of the correction result (I reduced the amount that the auto correction was reducing the signal at 37Hz (maybe changed a -3.5 to -2.5 or so) to dial in something that I liked. Still working on it by ear.
I had earlier tried the more full range room correction with a WiiM Pro earlier in the same room and gave up after a while - could not get a result that I liked.
Anyone else found something similar?

I think Wiim supports this.

Something like HouseCurve, can build a correction curve from multiple locations.

Yes. Too easy to go from too quiet to too loud.
I both agree and disagree... If I'm using the Wiim remote, the volume changes too quickly, if I control the volume via CEC / eARC from my TV box remote, it changes too slowly, and if I do it from my phone, it feels just about right. Specifically, it feels like holding the volume rocker on my phone it changes slowly with a single press, and then speeds up with a long press.

Thought I was reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears there ;):p

I just tried it again, and it's even more complicated... Within the Wiim app on my phone, a single press changes volume by 3, from within Spotify it changes by 2, and from within Tidal it changes by 1... Long press from inside all apps results in a fast sweep through the volume dial. Long press on the remote for my TV box doesn't speed things up - it's just slooooow. I doubt any of this can be influenced by Wiim though, more's the pity.
