I lowered while testing to 1V and 0.8V and it's exactly the same behavior. Overall analog level was lower but the same 'flat' output with distortions between 0 and -1.2.
Yes, but also lowering WiiMs volume should help as it can allow to go below -1.1 dBFS range which has distortions highly reduced.

I will try my luck requesting Wiim a previous firmware version to be applied, then I will do some more tests.

One of the nice things about the RME is the peak VU meters. For the jazz that I listen to, I’ve never seen peaks above -1.2dB in pre-processing. The spectrum display rarely shows any frequency going above -10dB.

So, I’m happy to wait for WiiM to fix this, as it has no real effect for me.

Anyway, nothing that we can fix on our own, hopefully Wiim Support is also active here.
Don't rely on Wiim being active here.

They have created their own new forum. Report it there.

And better to also report "feedback" via WiiiM Home app

Hi everyone. Well I am glad I do not have FFT analyzer for ears. I can not hear anything wrong with my external DAC analog output. DSOM
Cast from Amazon app @96khz,24bit, gapless, don’t turn it (Mini) up anyway as I use its volume control with a 20 bit S/N for my DAC. Lots of headroom for volume or am I kidding my self?
We all know we can’t really hear hi-res audio anyway, so all we really have is measurements and thus this great site!

Test in Adobe Audition entirely in digital domain: original generated tone of 1000 Hz at 0 dB (left) then increased the volume with only 0,3 dB, saved the file and opened again (right). See the distortions (harmonics) appeared because of clipping over 0 dB.

This test shows exactly the behavior of Wiim Mini - source was the clean 0 db file and I captured similar distortion when casting to Wiim (see below capture).

I interpret this as there is some type of processing in Wiim which exceeds 0 dB, therefore all the distortion and harmonics.

You can try. I've been waiting for a week already.

On Wiim Forum I received the following reply from the Wiim Team: We will use the older firmware version and new firmware version to test the sound quality with AP. In the meantime, can you help to send us the MAC address of your device? We will downgrade your device to the 20220922 firmware version and please help to check if the distortion still persists.

Perhaps you could post your MAC address there as well

They know your MAC if you raise a ticket using feedback function in the app. I got the info that "we have rolled back your FW to 430138 today and your device will be downgraded to this version automatically" yesterday, but it didn't happen yet.

Post in thread 'WiiM Mini Streamer' https://audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/wiim-mini-streamer.31182/post-1355805

just my first post..
the measure ok to 09/13
the dirty on 10/23
(toslink ,without notches, same condition)
I just had a series of standart measurements( 1k-12k imd ap32 j-test )(like on chromecast) made on 09/13 that I could compare to now...
made under the same conditions.
quite simply...
waiting for wiim's investigations now...

With all these graphs, test files and talk about distortion, I really miss the cosy chats around jitter we used to have - just joking.. ;):p
Just let me check how is the jitter looking like now on the graph with all those distortions... Joking :)

I got the 22/09 firmware 4.6.430138. I repeated the tests and:

- The 0 dB sample still produces distortions
- Anything below does not produce distortions
- No more 'limiting' e.g. you see differences in output level now (versus no difference between 0 to -1,1 dB)

So, I think only partly solved... because still there is something at 0 dB.

Entire test pattern analysis:

Did you test it in the digital domain?

No, via analog output. I don't have anything to capture Toslink. I leave it to you to test in the digital domain.
I have a feeling that issues are gone in the digital domain with the old FW. Unfortunately it looks like WiiM's support doesn't like me anymore.

As I finally got my WiiM downgraded to 430138 I can confirm no distortion issues up to 0 dBFS.
