Why are my Speakers not selling? (UK)

Not sure if the OP is a member (or how long you need to be to post), but the largely subjectivist Pink Fish Media classified section may be worth a look. It's a huge forum and has all sorts looking in, objectivists too, to be fair. HiFi Wigwam may be of interest as well, as well as the Art of Sound forum.

Not sure if any of the above would tolerate a newbie joining just to sell something though, but I mention them just in case.

I'd suggest a bit more in the description - Sonus Faber is known for the cabinet quality as much as the sound so describe (sell!) the woodwork, the way they look. Better pictures would help too.

I agree though, stick to your fair price and wait for the right buyer to come along.

Perhaps try some of the hi-fi specific second hand sites too or see if a local dealer will list them?

Good luck

Best time is the week from Christmas to New year: all people then are looking for what they did not get on x-mas

Check out Hifishark. It tells you what others have asked for similar speakers - look at "sold"

The eBay add doesn't appear here because of the typo 11 instead of II in the title so the crawler cannot identify correctly and doesn't add this offer to the list.
A small correction sometimes changes everything ;)

Penny auction (start at 1p) state no reserve and see if you get a feeding frenzy that somebody doesn't want to loose.

High risk strategy , but sometimes pulls in more bidders .

In #19, I made an attempt to sprinkle with positive adjectives in the text of the OP's ad BUT I think the seller himself has to be comfortable with that. If he's going to do it. It has to be and feel authentic.:)

Someone with several decades of experience who doesn't want others to fall flat on their faces.

You showed everyone else who you are and what level you are at with your post.
30% off isn't falling flat on one's face. I give away some of my stuff for free because my time is worth more than the money I gain. This has to be factored in as well. You are quick to insult, please insult me now.

I'd rewrite the sales pitch, Something like:

These high end Sonus Faber loudspeakers have tight bass that goes surprisingly deep, an open midrange, and smooth highs.

The cabinets, as you can see from the photos, are outstanding, and are in 'as-new' condition.

Supplied with the original boxes/packaging, and the owner's manual.

Only selling as I am moving higher up the range.

Only this.
Those who are interested in this speaker will be aware of why they are looking for it.

Mostly they will, but still helps to be reassure that they sound good.

That sounded nice.:) As long as the seller really feels that way about them.

In any case, the more you praise them, the more important it is to have a credible explanation for why you are selling a pair that are not even a year old.

We've all read speaker ads with everything from one end of the spectrum where the worst crap is praised as if it were the best thing since sliced bread to high end speakers with sales text that just says: A working pair, for sale
(can be a strategy in itself, getting potential buyers to get in touch with you)

There is more than one way to skin a cat (fish). :)

I've sold some passive speakers in what I consider a pretty good market (SF Bay Area) and you should expect to wait quite a while unless you want to sell at an extremely low price. I've also bought and sold a lot of audio gear secondhand over the past... 15 years or so. And I make a point of trying to buy almost everything secondhand (not just audio stuff) if I can, and then sell it later. I also made my 50% of my living selling on eBay for a while (the other half was Amazon.) I offer this as explanation of why I think I know what I'm talking about here. :)

IMO expect the sale to take 6-12 weeks at this rate.

You can possibly cut this to ~4 weeks from today, with some effort.

Ways to speed it up:

  • Cut the price dramatically (most effective. An SVS sub at $600-1000 sits for weeks in my area. I saw one sell in less than 3 hours at $100. I missed it!)
  • Take some really nice pictures (do your best attempt at magazine quality, with nice decor and everything, edit the photos to spiff them up, helps more than you think)
  • Add more search terms to the title and listing ("audiophile", "hi-fi", "stereo", etc - anything someone might be typing in who is looking for speakers, but not SPECIFIC speakers.)
  • Create a listing on more marketplaces - Facebook marketplace, craigslist, Audiomart, Reverb.com, etc. Expanding your potential audience is important. Fish where the fish are. If you don't know where the fish are, fish everywhere*.
  • Pay to boost your listings on marketplaces where this is allowed. A $5 boost on FB / eBay can sometimes save you a lot of time.
You can use a little more flowery language in your listing but it will only help so much. Most people in this market have some idea of what they are looking for, and if they don't, it's easy to overdo it. I usually just say something like "These speakers sound amazing, really good bass, but I've upgraded and don't have space for them anymore - my loss, your gain!"

Good luck!

*The advantage of local listings vs. eBay is you don't need to worry about shipping or transaction fees. You may give a little discount / haggle but still end up making more.

I have some Sonus Faber Lumina II that I am trying to sell on ebay. Getting watchers & views but no queries or sale. I am looking for some idea/views what I am doing wrong? They are less than a year old and in perfect condition, what can be wrong?

Any help would be gratefully received
I would list the speakers here in the "Audio Equipment For Sale or To Buy" section of the forum. You need to contribute to the forum to do so.

I have sold 3 pieces of equipment.

I listed my amp and preamp here and at another website, Audiogon if I remember correctly. The amp sold through here and the preamp through the other website. Both sold pretty quickly.

I listed a miniDSP SHD here, and it sold pretty quickly.

Sorry to say it, but is not UK in a difficult pass: bad economic results, some riots?
I have read that 1/5 of the UK population is under the poverty level.
If you can, you may wait for better days.

THIS is something completely different ;)

Thanks for the comment. I have set uk shipping at £10.
they have been up for 2 weeks
eBay is full of buyers who want something for nothing, a good buyer may take a while to turn up.

The only thing I found is you have them listed as SONUS FABER LUMINA 11 - Bookshelf Speakers. When people may be searching for SONUS FABER LUMINA II versus 11’s Bookshelf Speakers. Essentially you used two 1’s instead of two capital I’s.
