Elac DBR62 | Sold these, wasn't charmed by their sound or appearance. They were replaced by Totem Arros (amazing but tiny) and later swapped for larger Hawks Benchmark DAC3 HGC | Love the all-in-one package with analog inputs, HP amp and remote, all with solid engineering and build quality Topping L30 & E30 | These were fine but sold because redundant with the DAC3 HGC. DCA Aeon 2 Noire
Sold my Chord DAC and various other doodads (tube buffer? Why did I buy this??) due to the influence of this site. I'm fairly positive the Totems measure like dogshit but they're so satisfying. Hope they never find their way to Amir's chopping block!
Also picked up a Bryston 3B SST2 secondhand (the 3B actually fit in my media cabinet) because power, plus an amazing transferrable 20-year warranty. Hope some Bryston gear is reviewed here eventually.
I really enjoy this forum and while I'm still an audio idiot, I enjoy listening to music through this gear immensely. Satisfied for now
Top rated (SINAD) DAC and pre-amp from Topping. My OCD feels much better now.
Purifi amps.
I also no longer worry about stuff like most all "high-end" cabling and power management products. Feels good.
Bought because of ASR:
RME ADI-2 DAC
Genelec 8040
Bose QC35II
Focus Fidelity
Sold because of ASR:
Croft valve pre and power amps
Audioquest optical and USB cables
These and other changes to my system based on advice here have made it sound far better than I ever could have hoped, saved me around £2000, and relieved me of endless audiophile upgrade anxiety.
I used to sell AV in college and had developed a brand bias for marantz. About three years ago I started an upgrade journey to separates. Because of ASR I switched from buying a Marantz AV 8505, paused my search, and started focusing on what Amir called “good engineering hygiene.” In the following lull, I bought a Denon A110 to use as a prepro and went all Class D Hypex Ncore amps to create a 7.2.4 system. I then sold my A110 and skipped a few interim incremental purchases (probably saving me money) and instead bought a Trinnov Altitude 16.
