Topping D30Pro Review (Balanced DAC)

Just got another A30Pro/D30Pro stack together today. Forgot how nice it is to have a DAC with no MQA or bluetooth antenna I never use. I think they really got it right with the D30Pro, 3 prong grounded power cord that's easy to replace. Been using an A90/E50 stack and the A90 does sound nicer, but if you can't find a D30Pro, the E50 with a Samsung ETA0U60JBE charger does just as well. Just have to relocate the serial number sticker to the bottom and clear tape over it.
I've never considered it to be "nice" to not have features on products like this even though I don't use them... That is quite a weird metric... But to each their own.

I guess, it has a better sound without MQA (even if it's off) and BT antenna. Especially antenna, it can affect audio waves a lot! :D

Topping had every intention to release the D30 Pro with bluetooth. You can see this on the display where there is a bluetooth indicator cutout right next to the USB indicator, also the contactpoints for the bluetooth module are there on the PCB. But then covid happend with the well-known shortages and Topping decided to push out the D30 Pro anyway but without bluetooth.

Hello ASR-Community,

i love my D30 Pro but i am a bit confused about the "filter" discussion. Which filter is recommend for the best "theoretical performance"?

Thank you all for your help and have a great day

Whatever filter cuts stuff ultrasonic the hardest, in this case F2

Why bother, impossible to hear difference
And why ask others about a select you can do on your own in your living room

Your choice is the best you can do

Hello @domiji, nice to see some D30 Pro still alive and kicking! :D
As @Human Bass mentioned just above, F2 filter works just fine and honestly never felt the need to change it,

Played with the filter settings when I just got it out of the box. Couldn't hear any difference whatsoever with any setting so put it back to default F2 and never looked at it again.
Actually I have not touched the DAC in forever since the DAC automatically turns on and off :)

The driver 5,62 does not allow installing ASIO for foobar

Not a driver issue.
You're trying to install a 32bit plug-in onto a 64bit version of foobar.

I just got my hands one of these....just wow.
After doing research I thought I'd buy one before I can never find one again.

Love the small footprint!
What a beast, I'm done, I don't need anything else at my desk.

Topping has really disrupted the DAC & Amp Market.

Hello Guys,

just became a happy D30 owner. I am using my CC Audio as a stream source for the DAC via Toshlink. My question is that I would like to play my LG TV's sound (what only has Toshlink audio output) through the DAC but the Toshlink is reserved for my audio system. Is there any solution to run my TV setup through D30?

I am now using a seperate cheap DAC from amazon but I could achieve better sound quality via D30. Is there any way you could suggest?

If I converting first with the cheap DAC to be able to use the coax input on the D30 then I will suffer double dig-ana -> ana-dig conversation, is my assumption right?

Many thanks!
Andras

You can use a basic, $10 Toslink to Coax SPDIF converter to convert one of your sources, either the CCA or the TV, to Coax.

These do not modify the signal in any way, so fidelity is preserved.

Another option is to buy a Toslink switch: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D45GY575

Thanks for your quick respond. I have one of this please see attached and made me confused :) Following your suggestion the setup should look like this. Audio signal out from TV via Toshlink get into my cheapDAC via Toshlink and get out from the cheapDAC via coax and get to my D30 via coax. But on my cheapDAC the coax is on the input side of the device not on the output. Did I missunderstand something?

What I sent is a DDC. It converts Toslink to Coax SPDIF for the D30's SPDIF input.

What you have is a DAC which converts Toslink to Analog Line audio.

You should not plug an analog signal into the D30's SPDIF input. It is designed for digital inputs. Analog won't work.
