Tom Danley Signature Series HRE1 4,400-watt 4-way Powered Loudspeaker

You would REALLY have a pair of these HRE-1's in your living space?
Kids, don‘t you dare putting your trash in the speaker again, our livingroom is not a public bus stop!

Sorry, can‘t help it, design is a tricky thing.

Are these constant directivity down to the low end? If not then hardly comparable to 8381s
The 8381A isn't particularly constant in directivity in the bass frequencies when compared to the W371A.

if you put the Danley on its side, you can wash the dishes in it; if you put the Genelec on its side, it turns into one of those roll a penny games.

They were excellent amongst the best I have heard, my wife through the years has had to put up with some ugly speakers but all she could say was ‘when are they coming to collect’.

which were the best sounding that she also liked the look of?

She is quite keen on speakers that can be placed close to the front wall and whose bass can be adjusted, I believe she currently finds the 8Cs the least objectionable .
I will ask her.

Btw would it kill Danley & Genelec to put some metal grilles over those side woofers, they look like they're begging to be accidentally booted.

That would significantly increase the price. ;)

I understand function before form, but this is a bit extreme. I am not sure who needs 130 db output capability in a home environment, but it seems in a domestic environment for someone that wants high SPL capable and accurate speakers, the JBL Everest DD67000 would be a better option.

The JBLs are too huge

Was she taking about the speakers or you?

These do have the added benefit of being big enough to be buried in, something that's going to occur to many owners partners.

FWIW I think if you have a room big enough to need these, and the budget you can probably dress the room to largely ignore them.

I am not sure there is a room that big…

I was fortunate to have a pre-production pair here for a month or two.

It seems they have two websites. Google sent me to https://www.danleysoundlabs.com/ but these speakers are on https://tomdanley.com/ Confusingly both site’s page titles are the same.

Has anyone knows more about this model? A very unorthodox design.

both the X and Y scales are way different, though they both hover around 60-70 degrees in the low end

I heard these at a show last year. It was in a large hotel room, I didn't impressed by the sound at all. Of course they can sound "big" and loud that small speakers can't follow but these was all the positives I heard. There was lack of resolution of a typical high frequency compression driver, a not too spectacular midrange and a deep but sluggish bass.
