State of the Art passive full-range speakers?

@dfk here is a PEQ webpage of links I put together.
For Windows install EQ APO and then install Peace Equalizer too for the GUI and additional features.

For Mac use eqMac or SoundSource but not both.

PEQ these days is implemented at the PC in the digital domain. It is intended as the PC source and then PEQ occurs before the DAC.
Ahh, yes. I use Foobar, it had it. . .I'm sure there are more apps, I can download too.

But I don't really use it too much. So far my room acoustic measures decent. I build my own diffuser based on legit QRD math and brought some absorbtion panels and played around with measurements.

Keep talking about your room treatment and we are going to have a dozen requests for pics of it from the enthusiasts here. LoL. I know I'm dying to see it too.

LOL.

Right now, listening room is under renovation due to some chimney damage. But here is a picture of the diffuser I built. BTW, totally wasn't worth it. Should of just brought it.

Interesting. Did you use a web online calculator to compute the design or was it fully manual entry into a handheld calculator. I ask because to my knowledge to do it right can get pretty complicated.

Let me hook you up brotha. ;)

@chouca - Just curious, what did you end up getting? or are you still in the decision process?

I bought the Blade 2 Metas and love them!

I don't find myself thinking about what could be better, but I am excited to build a more acoustically isolated room with KEF in-wall surrounds and height channels. I've bought all the necessary speakers for when the time comes to build, but meanwhile I'm running 5.1 with floorstanding Proacs doing surround duty and a homemade center channel cabinet.

I watched Dune to demo a Kaleidescape player and got so sucked in that I ended up continuing straight through Dune 2. Sonically it was a much better experience than either of the local IMAX theaters, where I originally watched the movies and which sounded like they were calibrated by college kids.

In summary, very satisfied with my purchase!

Other gear:

KEF Ci5160RLM-THX center channel
SVS SB-16 Ultra sub (may get more when I do my final build!)
Apollon PET 950 amps
Anthem AVM 90 pre/pro

congrats, I still haven't been able to find a pair to demo.

I hear you. It seems like hi-fi demos have gotten a lot harder to come by these days. I had hoped to audition Magicos but never was able to.

There is not one state of the art speaker it all depends on the category in which you want to get state of the art, like tonality, soundstage, envelopment, dynamics, deep bass and so on.

From my experience such "standard hifi" speakers like the kef blade lack dynamics and punch. Even inexpensive PA speakers are most of the time better in this regard.

If you want to get an overall very good speaker with dynamics which is considered to be overall better than the KEF Blade it gets fast very expensive.

Big horn speakers like the Acapella Hyperion or Acapella Sphäron are two or three classes above the KEF Blade and in in therms of dynamics lightyears ahead.

If you are able to compare such speakers side by side it becomes obvious that most people will like such a dynamic speaker overall much better than standard hifi speakers even if in some categories they are most of the time worse.

Phew, thanks for sticking with this, and any suggestions are appreciated!
For how many people are you going to set it up?
